Though my board failed to call me, and continuously fails to answer my phone calls or return my phone messages, they took the time to update the state database! Apparently I haven’t committed any violent crimes in my sleep, cause they approved it! Thanks to the community here, and especially Jeff!

Thanks! I honestly kinda like good CPE. I really have no problem with learning, its the testing that I hate. The questions they ask for screened classes are cake, and the live ones are just a matter of staying awake. Im still kinda spongy I guess.

    Roxwella,

Congratulation….!!! Which state are you in? I am in CA still waiting for my license number. It has been 8 weeks and hope to hear from them soon.

Are you planing to join aicpa membership? Or state society? CPE course?

I might purchase CPE course from aicpa and join the membership as well …

    Thanks everybody!

Im actually in New Mexico. I tracked when the board meetings were, and actually knew the director of the board through personal association. I turned my application in on the 30th of January, and was approved the 13th! I think the key to quick acceptance is knowing how your state board works, and how their license system works.

I don't think I have time to join anything between here and the middle of April. Apparently my Google Advertising is working, cause our door is getting knocked off the hinges :). But, we are primarily tax, and our clientele probably wouldn't know the difference between the AICPA and my CPA degree. The more local area based clubs are were it is at for us. Local professional groups (non-accounting especially). Free tax advice to small business owners in the right industries is better than commissions for driving business.

Ive used Jenings Seminars before and like them a lot (taxspeaker, com). Their speakers are interesting and very business savvy. And though their hours may cost you more, I feel like what they present is so much more specifically helpful than what I have seen in other cheaper CPE. They also do discounts occasionally, I highly suggest waiting for them!

Hey Jeff, wanna start up some CPE courses? You already have a great platform to jump off from!

I also just received my License in Colorado. Took NASBA about 4 weeks for mine to be issued, but Christmas and New Years fell in there so the might have been slow to process during a couple week period. Congrats on the three letters behind your name! As a side note how many people also routinely use MT or MBA along with CPA in signatures, business cards, etc?

    @jutterb,

Congrats on being finished. I don't think you need to use your credentials unless necessary, for example if you happen to write an article, or sign a tax return or financial statements. You don't need them if you are writing a check, or signing a traffic violation. When I receive mine I am going to buy me a polo shirt or sweater and have my name engraved on the front with my CPA behind my name……..I may get several colors until the newness of accomplishment wears off.

yes I will be doing the most, but I want everyone to know I am a CPA….when I pass of course.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader.....time to pass

Sorry, I should've specified by signatures I meant email signatures…..I'd never sign a check or traffic violation with CPA MT, that's a little unnecessary. Good luck on your custom sweaters!

@JUTTERB, @Roxwella and everyone who got their license

    Congrats!!

Can anyone of you tell me how long you had to work for your firm until your employer sign off your experience? I understand some states require 1 year, others require 2 years, but do employers tend to make you work longer before signing off?

    Thanks!

@unsure..I was fortunate, in that my mother is a CPA, and I have been involved in this world since I was 10 (though I resisted it at first :). In my state we need an equivalent of one year experience. What I actually did was to start by shooting low (because I was prelaw up till I met a few lawyers;). I went through HRBlocks little tax program, and stuck it out with them for a tax season, and then the next year (when I had both that experience with them, as well as my obvious movement toward being a CPA) finding a seasonal tax position at a busy CPA tax office was a snap, and many times it can turn into a full time job. If they are busy enough, they will be looking (starting around October, yearly) Its really not as hard as it seems to get the experience if you are realistic, and understand that no one starts at the top!

You can do it! All you gotta do is stick with it.
