LinkedIn Cold Calls

Does anyone have any advice on “cold calls” on LinkedIn? What I mean is have you reached out and connected with a person you have not met personally who works for a company you are interested in and attempted to move forward with employment in that company as your end goal?

If so, what was your approach? Were you successful? What is your advice on doing this? I usually prefer in person networking and am quite good at it. However, social media is now playing such a huge part and it’s somewhat hard to break the ice to someone who doesn’t know you.

    Thoughts?

I definitely fall into the facetime camp, but regarding Linkedin- Why not?

There are only two reasons the recruiters are on Linkedin:

    1) They're looking for employees to hire; or

    2) They're looking for another job, too.

Either way, you have nothing to lose.

I'd like to hear some feed back on this too. I have ‘cold contacted' people and approached it as having the same interests as they have in some way. The other day I connected with someone at a company ‘cold call' style simply because I'd be interested in possibly working there at some point. They accepted my invitation, and I sent them a ‘thank you' style note. It hasn't landed me any offers so far though, but who knows.

I've had firm recruiters “cold call” me on LinkedIn, so I don't know why you shouldn't cold call them. My understanding of LinkedIn is that this is its purpose – to network with people you otherwise might have a hard time networking with. If you knew everyone on LinkedIn already, then what would LinkedIn be for? You can just email people you already know!

Bill Brasskey is a six-foot-eight-inch 330 lb beast man who showers in vodka and feeds his baby shrimp scampi.

I use this name everywhere. EVERYWHERE. You guys are the first ones to pick up on it.
