So like any CPA candidate, I am exhausted. My neck and back hurt and I am having a hard time getting much sleep. This morning I was wide awake at 3am! The muscles around my neck area feel tense and I am drained! 🙁 About 17 days away from exam day and I need my energy back. How have you guys coped with such tiredness? Would a massage help? I was thinking of one of the chinese chair massage they give at the mall for 20 bucks. I tried it once but that massage hurt more than relieve pain!

Get a real live, 60 minute massage. I got one about a week before my Regulation exam (which was 4/4/15), and it really helped.

The massage therapist said, “Yes, I feel the keyboard in your shoulders”. Do it.

Go to the furniture store and test out the massage chairs.

I've been going to a lady for…7 years. I run a lot so that's the main reason I get them, but I also got one a few days before my REG exam because my back and neck were killing me. It hurt because she did a deep tissue massage to get all the knots out, a few days later I felt a lot better. You can get a “relaxing” massage that'll calm you down before you exam, but if you want to get knots out, go the deep tissue route. Also, drink lots of water afterward. Good luck on REG!

Look at Groupon 🙂 Often they are running 20 percent off for any local deal. That is how I got my 60 minute massage for 20 bucks and getting 5% cashback by going through ShopDiscover 🙂

Thanks for the responses. Lol, I like the idea of visiting the furniture store. I think it'll make sense to get a proper massage. @Gabe – yeah, deep tissue hurts but it sure is more effective. Trouble areas are neck and back. Also, how did REG go for you? I see you sat on Friday? Good luck to you too!

@cracked. yeah neck and back are normal trouble areas. I also have knots in my legs because I don't stretch like I should lol. REG…I didn't think the MCQs got “harder” which worries me, but then again, it's very subjective- what's hard for me, may not be hard for someone else and vice versa. The sims weren't awful like I felt they were last quarter. I got 2 research sims (which has never happened to me and I sat for FAR 4 times), 2 sims on “standard” topics and 2 sims on “seriously, why are you asking me to do this.” Overall, I felt better than the first time I sat, but I don't know. I keep second guessing myself…I didn't have a lot of complex calculations in my MCQs, I had a lot of “theory” questions and some basic calculations. Ok..I'll quit ranting, I could dissect my exam until the cows come home lol. How's your review coming along?

You need to see a chiropractor. You're likely out of alignment.

I was skeptical of chiropractors until we started going to one 4 years ago.

One caveat: finding a GOOD chiropractor can be challenging. Ask your FB friends.

I am with Jeff on finding a chiropractor. I had my first visit about 3 weeks ago and it was life changing. My gait was so off that it was starting to make my hip hurt. And not to mention I was tense all the time. I get a deep tissue massage a week before my exam and it usually helps.

@Gabe – Review is going fine. Reading my last chapter before I start my review phase and hitting the MCQ's hard.

@ Jeff & ruggercpa2b – I've actually heard great things about chiropractors. To be honest, I've never thought about visiting one but I guess it might be about the right time to pay a visit to one. I'd need to see if insurance covers any costs coz I assume they can get very expensive.

My friend works in physical therapy and helps re-align my back/spine (whatever it is) all the time. I feel great afterwards too. He always cracks my neck too. It's lightning quick and it feels like he's going to snap my neck haha. Just gotta ask him BEFORE we start drinking 🙂

I wouldn't go to the Massage Parlors here in SoCal. Police usually go to these places and you don't even get a massage.

    I agree with Jeff.

I go to a chiropractor. If I can afford it, I'll go once a month. If I can't afford it, then I just go the week before an exam.

I also try to go to yoga classes at least twice a month.

Between work, my commute and studying, I had to find help.

That's funny, as I too got a full 1 hour massage before REG exam. I think it's the most stressful apparently. And it appears REG is keeping massage therapists in business 🙂
