Is it worth the time and expense to go beyond CPA license requirements and pursue a Masters of Accounting degree? Does it add any significant additional professional value?

A master's degree definitely adds professional value if this is something you want to go into more detail about and feel would be beneficial to any clients you're working with and if it would help you to get promoted. If you're currently working, you may even want to ask your employer for advice. Unfortunately most of the master's in accounting programs I've seen have said straight off the bat that they are there to help undergrads meet the 150-credit requirement, so steer clear of those. There ARE programs that go beyond that (I think Boston College has a masters in accounting program for accounting majors and one for non-majors), so you'll have to look at individual programs to see if they're a good fit.

Also just wanted to add that a master's in accounting isn't the only path accountants can take! You could also take a master's in real estate, finance, taxation, etc. As much as we say we hate studying, many people choose to pursue another license. I have a couple of friends, both CPAs, who are pursuing or looking to pursue their next license. One wants to be a CFA, and the other is interested in the CITP. So it really depends on your career path.
