I had a recruiter contact me from McGladrey. She is sending my info to two different offices to see if they have any interest in me. I have been in public accounting at a very small firm for over 4 years. I work in both tax and audit. However, I discussed with the recruiter that I only want to work in audit. I was just wanting to know if anyone had any opinions on McGladrey. What the culture is like? What the work/life balance is like with audit in the firm. Currently, I only work overtime during tax season, and then it is only 50 hours a week.

Do you ever look at glassdoor.com? I find it really helpful. I know McGladrey is a Big 10 firm, at least. Probably not as laid back as you are use to, but may offer more interesting engagements.

Almost always from my phone... please excuse my typos!

The only knowledge I have of McGladrey is one of their firms in Florida comes up here to Alabama and does some big audits that my firm had some stuff to do with.

I think they fly up on Monday and leave after work on Thursdays. They do that every week until the audits are finished. I talked with a couple of the auditors and they mentioned travelling a lot for work. I would imagine that's pretty standard, so if you're good with travelling a lot, then you may like it.

McGladrey is a great place to work. How busy your schedule will be really depends on the city you'll be in. The bigger offices will have a lot more hours but the smaller offices are pretty laid back.

Thanks for the info. Both offices are in smaller cities.
