I didn't memorize them. I just knew the main differences between them.
I memorized them word for word and for me it was the difference between passing and failing. You might be strong without memorizing them but I do recommend it. I had recorded myself reading them on my i-phone and I was taking walks while listening to it. :)
I don't think you need to memorize the reports word for word. For M/C, you just need to understand the differences between them. And if you need to write one out in the communication tab, then you can just search it in the research, split the screen, and rewrite it! Back when I was studying for AUD, the reports were searchable. I hope they still are.
My accounting professor in college made us memorize it and said it will greatly assist us on the exam...he couldnt be more right. I def think its worthwhile for the multiple choice and the sims.
Airhol and FARbehind,
did you memorize all the reports or just the standard unqualified? I take the test on May 28...I also noticed some ratios...were there many numerical questions???
Thanks!
Just the 3 standard ones: audit, review and compilation. For the other ones I only knew the key differences (sentences).
There were not many q's for calculation. Most of it is just theory. I would learn the ratios though because they are tested in all 3 sections - BEC, AUD and FAR. Once you memorize it now it would be much easier later. Only REG doesn't have the ratios. Well, I now saw that you already did your other exams. So, never mind... AUD is the least calculations of all.
I did not memorize them verbatim but could look at the report and know if something was off.
And that's what I meant by memorizing: knowing it. Maybe you don't need to recite them but know terminology used. Everyone is different but knowing them helped me. I get nervous on the exam and this feels comforting, one less thing to worry about. Also, I am slow and dont' want to go to the research tab for something like this and waste my time on copying reports. But if you are fast like some people on this site maybe you'd be ok with not memorizing them. This is why it is so difficult to give advice....
FARbehind
I figure with the ten minutes they give you to accept... I could just write it down on the scratch paper and have one less thing to worry about....hell i may have a brain fart that day....who knows??
"But if you are fast like some people on this site maybe you'd be ok with not memorizing them"
Nope i am not fast...i wanna take this slow...it is bad enough already!!! I do enjoy everyones advice. I just read it all and apply what i could use. you know the type of person you are and the fact that i even asked lets me know that i should just memorize it and get it over with....
wat ten minutes to accept?
Styleforum,
You know at the beginning when you are looking at your picture and you have to read all the crap and say yes'm i do not ever plan on relinquishing any blah blah blah about this cotton pickin exam...
I'm confused as well. You said they give you 10 minutes to accept. You don't actually sit there for 10 minutes and wait, do you? I'm pretty sure that cuts into your total exam time, does it not?
nooo i never use the time but so i dont cut into my time while i write out my reports...
If you read the "Quit Exam" option here on another71....and read Jeff's comment you will see what i am talking about. And no your time starts when you go to the test. They give you ten minutes to read all the pre crap before the test. But Becker (I am using it) told us not to extend more than ten minutes or else you forfeit your exam. But it will only take me like 3 minutes to write out the reports...i know i have been practicing :}
Good idea. Be careful, last time they told me from the testing center I cannot write anything on my paper until I reach the exam. I was like: What? I always had the 10 minutes?!? Did the rules change? And they : No, but you cannot write anything. Of course, I didn't want to risk so I just sat there going over the crap....
FARbehind,
Which course are you using...i noticed you scored a 73 in bec followed by an 80...i scored a 71 to my surprise considering i put my head in my hand and cried right in front of the puter...anyhoo i need a 7 point boost to my score. I too am waiting on reg!!! here's to hoping it is released 2nd....wish i could remember which was second back in march...
well the little old ladies in indiana just put you at your seat and ask if that is you (picture) on the puter and then they leave....so hopefully i wont have any issues and i can write away...and then breeze on thru the blah blah blah crap and start the exam..
I just go through the intro screens of the exam as quick as possible...I don't read all that stuff...I just click what needs to be clicked...I get through all the screens in a minute or less. Then the first question I just mark any answer and go to the next question so that my exam is started and I won't timeout. Then I go and write everything down on my paper, and once I'm done w/ that I go back and do queston 1 over again.

I use Becker. I think they are pretty good. The first time I had hard first testlet with a lot of calcs and I went over time. When I realized that I tried to speed up and I did some guessing at the end. The next 2 testlets were ok but i was already behind... The next time around i tried to avoid that situation and I watched my time. I guess it paid off. I tried to concentrate on finance and cost accounting in my preparation. Of course, IT is very important too. The rest is not crucial. I think just by going there a second time helped me since I was aware of how they asked the questions. You should be ok adding the 7 points the next time. but plan to add 10 just to be sure...:)
FARbehind,
ok will do...10 points....lol...i am using becker also....i just hope i dont cry again!!!
Has anyone here gotten a sim where you had to write out the reports?
shawna
if they have i dont think they can say...
Taking AUD on Wednesday...
Can anyone confirm the presence of word-for-word Auditor's Reports in the "Research" tab for simulations?
Instead of taking 4 hours to memorize all the reports word-for-word this weekend, I would rather spend my time studying audit evidence in transaction cycles, relevant assertions, and all the other topics that make for tricky questions.
When exam time comes and I need to write a report for the simulation, could I just keyword search (i.e. Modified Unqualified, OCBOA report, or whatever). Select relevant topic. Quick scan to find the correct passage. Cut and Paste. Modify for particular question.....?
Time isn't really an issue on AUD for the majority of people, so even if you go into the test and write it out there shouldn't be an issue. I can't imagine having you write a standard report makes for a good written. Just dictating a standard report doesn't show any level of written skill/ability, which is the entire point of the exercise. You might reference part of it in your written, but just barfing up a standard report is useless.
