Michigan NTS – Should I be worried?

I’m starting to panic a little bit because I’ve made a schedule for all my exams, but it was all contingent upon receiving my NTS and being able to schedule with Prometric at the right times. I had been hoping to get in two sections this quarter. Now I can’t even bring myself to study for FAR without knowing if I’ll even be able to take it this quarter. Michigan is a NASBA state, so I applied with through the website, which was easy enough.

However, despite submitting my application and mailing in my transcript at the very beginning of the month, my application says that they’re still waiting on the transcript I sent in 19 days ago from a third party processor that my university uses (Parchment Exchange). NASBA’s already taken my money (of course) for the application and for two sections but I can’t get a straight answer from them as to whether there’s been a hiccup in the receipt of transcript or they’re just sitting on it. The lady I talked to told me that they process Michigan within 7 – 10 business days but I can’t tell me if they’ve received my transcript while the Parchment Exchange says they sent it 14 business days ago, so I don’t know who’s the one full of it. I’ve triple checked the TN address, so I’m not going nuts. Although I’m feeling like I am.

My application status has been stuck at “Your application has been received; however, it appears that one or more additional education documents are required before your eligibility can be determined. If you have recently requested your transcripts, please, allow time for them to be delivered and check your status again” for over 2 weeks now and I’m getting SO frustrated because no one can tell me what the hell has happened to my transcripts. I developed such a great study plan and was totally on the ball, but now I can’t even bring myself to crack the book. I haven’t studied in nearly a week. Yep, awful on so many levels.

Obviously, I’m a bit of a worrywart, but I don’t want to waste time studying for something I won’t be able to take, especially if I end up getting the NTS, but then not being able to get a Prometric spot before the September blackout. Do I call on the daily to check on the status like a squeaky wheel? I’m debating re-requesting my transcript to my home address and then overnighting them to TN with a tracking number to make sure they’ve got them (Parchment Exchange has virtually no tracking function) and then going from there. Or paying again to have Parchment Exchange email them to etranscript@nasba.org, even though I’m not confident it will be considered as direct from my university but at least I’ll be able to tell if they’ve been downloaded. I’m just really worried that something has happened to my transcripts and then at some point they’ll just consider my application as incomplete and I’ll forfeit all that money.

Can any one talk me down from the crazy ledge?

If your transcripts were sent 14 business days ago, in the mail for 5 business days (not at all unheard of), and it's taking 10 business days to process, then it wouldn't be processed yet. I'd still hang tight for a bit.

As for scheduling, do you work full-time? If you're available to test 7 days a week, you should still be able to get a date and time that works for you. Just try to be patient! 🙂

even if you get your NTS august 10 you should be able to fit in one exam in the window.

EDIT: I live on the east side in MI and its very easy to get whatever date you want for the test, except weekends.

Thanks guys (ladies?) from successfully talking me down from the crazy ledge.

Yes, I work full-time and the situation is that I need to give at least a month's notice when I'm taking time off AKA another reason I was super worried about the timing. The rub is that my company doesn't know that I'm studying at all (because I want to peace out by the end of the year by jumping from industry back to public) so I need to make the studying and test taking as inconspicuous as possible.

I'm just going to continue to check the NASBA site daily and schedule as soon as I can. I'm also on the east side eliasm6 and I guess I have options in either the Ann Arbor or Livonia Prometric locations. Or if worse comes to worse, Auburn Hills or Troy. At this point, I'll be happy if I can get one section in as I'd rather be super prepared for one than not prepared for any.

So back to FAR I go 🙂 Thank you!

I hear they open up more slots sometimes, and you'll be able to count on people rescheduling and leaving open spots that way, too. So don't panic.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

I've never had an issue scheduling last minute in AA or Livonia. I think I scheduled on the last day of a window 1 week before the actual exam date.

The initial application process usually takes some time.

How much does it cost to email it to Nasba? If it's 20 bucks or less, I'd just do it.

Also, as for scheduling – keep studying for FAR, because even if you get your NTS and there's no appointment open, you should be able to keep checking and one will open up. People cancel/reschedule exams all the time.

The prometric in Livonia generally has lots of options for scheduling, with the exception of the week before the window closes! I've only been to Livonia, so I can't speak for AA or Troy. Good luck!! 🙂
