Wanted to post both to help me keep track and to help other MN candidates know what to expect!

8/1/14 – got final score release

8/26/14 – sent in final bit of paperwork and $$ to MN (transcripts requested/confirmed sent, experience verification sent, and personal reference forms [3] sent to references, one confirmed mailed to state same day)

8/29/14 – AICPA sent ethics exam results to MN

8/30/14 – received letter from MN confirming I passed all 4 sections

Now to wait for the next step! Hopefully it’ll be quick… I WANT THOSE LETTERS! 🙂

Thanks for posting your experience and congrats on passing. I still have 4 months before I complete the experience requirement, but all of my exams are passed so it's just a matter of time until I can become a CPA.

Do you work in the Twin Cities area?

Yep, I work for a VERY small firm in Minneapolis (it's me and the owner) – we just do bookkeeping/consulting/training for small businesses and tax. I moved there after being at a slightly larger firm (10 people, so still small), where I did a mish-mosh of everything – bookkeeping, payroll, comps/reviews/audits, taxes, etc. I really really love bookkeeping and taxes, and I'm good at it. Excited to put those letters after my name, though, man.

They will approve your application at their next board meeting. I believe that is the only time they approve new applicants. You can find when the next board meeting is on their website. (I just looked and it is 9/15) My name was on their website the morning after the board meeting and I got my license a few days later.

Hopefully! I'm just hoping all my references got their stuff sent in and that transcripts got received and all that. One of my transcripts is under my maiden name, which REALLY confused NASBA even though I listed the maiden name on my application where there was space for it. Trying to stay cool about it, though, ya know?

I just got my final passing score yesterday and am looking toward the ethics test… Which version did you do? the online or the text? and do you recommend one over the other? Thanks

9/9/14 – Just got off the phone with the woman from the MN Board of Accountancy, and they're missing one reference and haven't gotten the file from NASBA, so I'm looking at the October board meeting being where I get approved (hopefully).

ajones19 – I'd go online, since you get your score right away and you're done.

On the application, it says

“You must wait until you receive notification of successfully passing the CPA examination from the Minnesota Board of Accountancy before submitting your application for a certificate.”

is that the Uniform CPA Examination Score Notice? Or is there some other notice that comes?

Another question… on the application it asks for the date you passed. Is that the date I took the exam, the date I got my score, or something else? Thanks.

@ajones – For the letter, you'll get a letter directly from the MN Board of Accountancy. Although when I called the woman said I could feel free to send my stuff in, but that it wouldn't be looked at until they received the transmission from NASBA. So, it doesn't matter too much.

For the passing date, I put the date that NASBA listed me as having credit for the exam, if that makes sense. I think it was the date I got my score…

I'm a little confused as to why I got my letter from the BoA but they say they didn't get the transmission from NASBA yet, but whatever. Hopefully only another month to wait. (BUT THE WAIT IS KILLING ME!!)

I'm so jealous. I sent in all my paperwork on the 18th after receiving my final passing score, but it was already too late. Now I have to wait until the November board meeting for approval. Congrats!

Even though I'm pretty sure my application wasn't/won't be reviewed until the October board meeting, I'm checking out the board of accountancy website and it was down for a while and now the stupid roster thing is crashed out and I'm going as nuts on that page as I was on NASBA's site during score release…

Finally got licensed. I took my last exam at the end of May, procrastinated on the ethics, but I didn't get the MN board notice that I passed all parts until July 15. Then the August meeting was cancelled (sent the application at the beginning of August). Got approved in September.

It can be a long wait.
