I am facing a serious financial drought. Business is so slow, too slow. Is there anyone out there moonlighting. What can we (exam candidate) do without conflict of interest. I am over qualified for Walmart and stuff like that, ( I tried) how can I get around this?

My desire is to keep my business with tax season coming up, but I need some extra cash.

    Suggestions please….

You could always check out the freelancing websites, elance.com, is one of them. I used to bid on jobs and moonlight from home and would get paid. Bear in mind though, that there are many people from other countries also bidding on these jobs and will low-ball the heck out of it. I tried to stick to the jobs that requested someone in the US. It helped a lot with communicating, especially if having to make phone calls and being in different time zones.

Edit: forgive my overuse of commas. Blame it on the cold meds 🙂

Wait tables or tend bar at a high-end restaurant. You would be amazed at the connections you will make.

You gave your age away because your willing to man (or woman) up and work harder when times are tight. Kids these days seem to just bitch about it like that's going to make it better.

    Tripp's right though.

I did that through college and met a ton of connections. Scored my current job (going on four years) that way. The money can be great too. I def made more money behind the bar than I did out of school- maybe even now.

The other route is to try to get a seasonal Saturday job doing compilations and tax returns. You could prob sqeeze $30 an hour or more from a small CPA shop.

You don't have reliable access to a pool of waitresses that are looking to get done that way, though.

OP, do you live in a city that has Uber? And a car? I'd consider that if it's possible. I hear drivers make a good amount of money.

Someone above recommended elance. There's other sites such as freelancer dot com and oDesk. Lots of potential there. Also: craigslist. Sounds really sketchy, but I've gotten great jobs from using it before. Usually more full-time though.

Okay to the person above. That's a very unfair (and kind of unwarranted) generalization with the first comment. There are hardships that “kids these days” have that weren't there before (such as recovery from a great recession). I don't condone people from my generation being lazy and ONLY complaining…but I'm really fed up with the unhelpful “suck it up” attitude coming from the generation that is partly contributing to everything that's going on now. I take action when times are rough but that doesn't mean I have lost sympathy for those with less ambition.

Even though I have a good job with a good salary and benefits, I still wait tables on the side when I can. I work with an independently owned small business and the owner is very flexible with my time. It's incredibly good money for the time I have to spend doing it, and the sacrifice is worth the extra cash I earn to throw at my debt. It also reminds me how thankful I am that I do not have to depend on it for my one source of income. It's the best way I know to earn extra cash.

    I follow Ryan @ recraigslist.com

I have a garage full of 22 washers and dryers at the moment 🙂

Fun, educational, and keeps one busy.

*edit*- you have to be able to answer a phone call at work in order to sell on craigslist.

Based upon your comment about ‘keeping your business' I would say its safe to presume you own a small accounting firm. I previously worked at a small accounting firm (now at Big 4) and when things were slow I would sell health insurance. You can get licensed pretty easily and its not too expensive. If you have clients, especially small business clients, its a way to add additional business lines and make extra money. If you sell a policy you get commission each month they retain and pay the policy premiums. If you can get a group of 10+ people its easily an extra $700-$1000 per month. After only selling a few groups you can attain a steady flow of income to help out when times are slow. I focused on this in 2008 when the economy was down and was able to make about 25k in commission on top of my salary. It enabled me to further build relationships with current clients and even received new insurance client which became tax clients the following busy season.
