Most effective study method for FAR?

What was the most effective study method that you guys used to study for FAR? Did you have to supplement your study with other material or would I be fine with just using Roger CPA? What is most efficient?

Is it helpful to research a ton via outside the course book? Sometimes I feel like it can be information overload and by the time you know it, two hours have passed by.

I would definitely love to hear from the high scores on FAR too!

MY STUDY METHOD: I watch the lectures, read the chapter after the lecture, take notes, while googling or text book researching information I do not understand for a more clear understanding, I hammer out all the multiple choice but refer back to the topic of that multiple choice question if i do not understand the answer, and finally, after I feel I have a clear understanding of the material, I hammer out the multiple choice some more. I did this for BEC and still awaiting results. I can get really heavy on the note taking, especially using outside information.

I only used Becker. I made my own flash cards and reviewed them weekly, specifically focusing on journal entries. I went through all of the questions, and SIMS twice, and also read the book twice, because I understood the material much better the second time through it. I'm not saying you need to go through everything twice to pass, but I don't think I would have passed if I didn't go through it all twice.

I tried to learn the material to the point that I could give a lecture on it. I did watch some youtube videos/google etc. if I didn't understand the material, but didn't get too bogged down in the details. People describe FAR as a mile long and an inch thick. I agree because you need to know a lot of topics, but don't need to delve too deep into the depths of each topic.

I can tell you for sure on Wednesday lol but I think you can pass FAR using only Roger. I've used just his program for all of my exams. His MCAT are at least as difficult if not more so than the actual exam. I never took notes, but as long as I could follow the lecture and in class problems, I'd knock out 5 chapters and then drill MCQS to make sure I understood the material. There were a few topics where I had to re watch lectures and spend time working more problems. I agree that you don't have to know everything about all topics but you can't have a topic where you think “well I'm just going to skip and pray it's not on the test”. I had 2 such topics and my 1st 2 SIMS were on those topics. I'd also say make sure you become familiar with the AL. I was able to use it on every SIM.

Thanks! I guess I can sometimes get tied down in the details and start thinking, oh if they want me to know this or this and so on.

I've just read a ton of stories of people studying in weird ways and passing. e.g. Only doing the multiple choice or not watching the lectures videos at all but it seems like you guys are pretty much doing the same thing I am. I just heard a ton of people saying they spent less time studying and became more efficient and were able to pass, but when they over studied they weren't able to retain as much.

How long did it take each of you to prep for the exam? I started study a couple days ago and I'm thinking of taking it sometime in May.

I studied for three months. But, I went through all of the material the second time starting a month before my exam. I think the key is to do whatever works best for you so you can truly understand the material. I've heard of people not watching lectures too, but that doesn't work for me because I may miss something if I just read the book. It also helps me more by reading the book before watching the lectures.
