Motivation for FAR?

So I’m scheduled to take FAR for the first time on August 10. I’m really stressing out because I don’t think I’m prepared and I’m extremely unmotivated because it seems like no matter how many hours I spend doing mcq’s or watching lectures or whatever, I can’t seem to get some of the material. I’ve been using Becker and I’ve completed the entire thing (lectures, sims, mcq’s, everything) and I just bought NINJA mcq’s as well. I guess I’m just freaking out since my test is so soon and I’m so unmotivated/depressed about my prospects of passing. This is my first section I’m taking as well, so I feel like if I fail this one, it’s going to seriously impact my confidence/motivation for studying for the other sections too.

For all you guys that have passed FAR, any tips on what to do with about a week left before the exam and how to pump my confidence up before I go into the test?

I don't know my score yet, but I was feeling the same as you, and, after taking it last week, I honestly felt like I shouldn't have stressed so much. My opinion? Ditch the Becker MCQ's and do Ninja only from here on out. I'm telling you… all of the questions I had (even on my difficult testlets) weren't as crazy as Becker questions. (For reference, I was trending at a 68% and averaging at a 71% for Ninja)

This exam scared me so much, but the real thing isn't that bad. Make sure you just know the concepts. That's really all you need to know. Even for the MCQs that have calculations. When you get to the sims, don't freak out. Expect for them to be bad, so that you can come prepared to tackle them as best as you can. Don't go crazy trying to study the Becker ones. I glanced at all of them, and that was it — I didn't even really practice them because I knew they were nothing like the real ones (and it was true).

    You'll be fine 🙂

    AUD: Pass (WTB)
    BEC: Pass (Ninja/Becker)
    REG: Pass (WTB)
    FAR: Pass!!! (Becker/WTB/Ninja)

DONE!! 🙂 It's SO nice to be able to finally write this. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

I feel soooooo much better hearing you say that! I think I've been so stressed because I wasn't doing well on the Becker questions (averaging maybe 50-60%). The questions are insane! It takes me forever to get through them and they're so confusing half the time I don't even know what they are asking. I've been doing Ninja though and I've been trending usually between 70-80%, but I wasn't sure how closely Ninja would be to the test. I guess I'm just twice as anxious since it's my first section and I don't feel as prepared as I want to be. But then again, who has actually ever felt prepared going into FAR? lol the thing is a beast!

I'm glad I can help! Yea, it took me a while to get through all of the Becker modules. I've pushed back this exam at least 3 times because I always felt like I wasn't ready. Even leading up to test day, I was like “I don't know if I can do this”. The real exam MCQ's were so surprisingly basic… I was shocked. Granted, the difficult testlet I had kind of threw me for a loop, but I'm hoping that me even seeing a difficult testlet is good enough for a pass.

I saved the Ninja MCQ's for my final 2-week review. As long as you work on them exclusively, you'll go in the exam and have a seamless transition — those questions were so similar to what I actually saw, it made me feel much more at ease. I used Ninja for BEC and thought the same thing. I honestly think my BEC test was harder than this FAR exam I had. I can't explain it… I just felt like FAR wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. I didn't even take the Becker final exams… I seriously just hammered out the Ninja MCQ's and used the progress report to track my weak areas. Right now, you sound like you're on the right track with your trending scores! 🙂

    REG: Pass (WTB)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled getting through the Becker modules. Some of those lectures were just terrible. I swear if I have to listen to Tim Gearty make a bad joke one more time I might go insane.

I'm glad to hear from someone who has done what I'm doing. I've basically just been focusing solely on Ninja mcq so hopefully that will get me the 75!!!

This is my first day of real studies, and I'm already overwhelm. Can one ever feel ready. All I did was listen to Becker, I writing the notes, and doing NINJA MCQs. Is that enough? I hope so. The days don't have enough hours..

Don't worry JUDOT, I was totally overwhelmed my first day listening to Becker. It seemed like it got easier once I got past the first two modules though. I think in general just sitting down to study for this exam is like a test itself… It sounds like what you're doing is on the right track though, just keep going!

I don't know though, I'm a bit biased against Becker. Looking back, I don't think my accounting education was all that solid and I really don't think I learned enough of the “basics” that Becker expects you to have when studying. Seems like I've been a bit bitter this whole time studying because of that.

It's so refreshing hearing others say how I'm feeling too! CPA prep sucks!!! I'm (trying) to do the Becker and it is a struggle! @alittlebitofnope I totally understand how you feel! I was a 4.0 student in college and I feel like I must have slept through every class when I read these completely ridiculous Becker MCQ's. They put so much BS in them to trip you up. I take my first test, FAR, this month and if I pass it'll be the good Lord taking mercy on me!

Maybe I need to ditch the Becker and get Ninja???

    Good luck!

Hello A Little Bit of Hope-

I just took FAR this past week. I even took off work for an entire week. This exam is HARD! i passed BEC on the 1st try & FAR is my 1st attempt. All i know is don't be discouraged & study 5-6 days a week & take 1 full day off. I kind of messed around my 1st month, but after that, i studied everyday except Sunday. You honestly don't know whats going to be on the exam. I definitely didn't know all topics going in, but felt comfortable. All of the difficult calculations i studied weren't on there, but I had to know theory questions. I'm using Wiley books & lectures. My advice, know government inside & out; I think it's difficult to pass without it. Honestly, that is the only area i felt comfortable in! we'll see & best of luck to you 🙂

@MTB15….In my personal opinion, I love NINJA products! I studied with Becker for my first attempt at FAR. Once I regrouped and got back on the horse to study again, I started out with Becker but because my materials were outdated, I switched to NINJA. Half way through NINJA I got burnt out (guess I wasn't quite as ready to begin again as I thought) and I switched to AUD using the NINJA materials. I felt really prepared for the exam when I went in. I plan to have my score tomorrow so we will see how it went.

On my way to a CPA

@MTB15 I felt the same way! I was a 4.0 student in college too but it obviously didn't do much for me lol I don't know though, I think every person is different. I have friends who went to the same school as me that are using Becker and absolutely LOVE it. I'm not so sold on it honestly. I've really thought about for my next sections switching to Ninja or another material. Everyone learns differently so you just have to find the prep course that will do the best for you.

@red_rose8604@ thank you! I'm definitely studying hard in this last week I just hope it's enough…
