Motivation for final test

So I passed 3 of the 4 sections on the first try and I am stuck and completely discouraged on REG. I’ve failed it twice despite being relatively comfortable with the material. At this point I am completely burnt out going through this process for almost a year now while working full time.

What kinds of things did you do to stay focused/motivated and finish strong on that last “beast test”?

Just remember – once you're done you never, ever, ever have to do it again.

I am at the same boat! REG is my last exam, I thought I'm well prepared when I walk in the testing center but I feel devastated after the exam yesterday. I didn't sleep good last night thinking how horrible the SIMS are. Plus I realized, I put in positive for answers that needs to be negative. I am dumb. I will retake in April so I am studying again. I hope I will get a better SIMS in April. Good Luck to all of us!

    FAR 04/21/2012 - Passed

    BEC 10/20/2012 - Passed
REG 2/28/13 - Horrible exam ever! - Passed
    I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re-take is scheduled for Monday April 8. 3rd time is a charm!! (…I hope…)

Moving out of my distraction filled place to a roommate-less one soon. Also in a less busy month at work (I'm in external reporting in corporate finance).

Hammering individual and corporate tax this week and next along with Gleim and Wiley. Tax is the part that kills me!!! Going to fill in the loose holes on the other topics over the final 2 weeks.

I think I have positioned myself for a 75 on this one….need some more confidence and some motivational push to get over that hump.

Hope everybody else is having a productive “off-month” of studying and getting ready for the 2nd window!

REG was my nightmare child! I had used almost every review course out there. I finally passed by adding the Ninja Audio to the Wiley test bank. I listened to Jeff constantly! I have no idea how many times I went through it from beginning to end. In the end I finally got an 84 from a low of 61 (two of those actually).

Pray, pray, pray, and pray some more. This is what I did and ended up with an 87 (from 63 the first time) in Audit after studying for only a few weeks, while being sick with a cold.

I am in the same boat. Have 3 done that I did well on, 2 of which I passed the first time. I have now taken Audit for my 3rd time and knowing that was my last test was hard. I feel like Audit should be so simple but it has been my beast. We know that we just need to get that last one done and be done with this forever but it really is a mental game. It is such a weird mix of motivation and feeling of accomplishment for having 3 done. Again, I'll just say it's a mental game that you have to fight and continue to study your butt off, I know first hand how hard that is. Good luck.

@Kricket – I bought Ninja Audio and Wiley Test Bank this time around! I've already got that little intro song stuck in my head! The Ninja Audio is perfect for driving to and from work and random breaks throughout the day.

    @Maverick – I will be doing that!

I know its tough, but after passing 3, you should see the light at the end of the tunnel. Keep you head up and think of all the good non-accounting things you will be able to do with your free time once you pass Reg. That is pure motivation for me and regardless if i passed Reg this time around i will work my ass off to get through it and Aud in the next testing window and finally be done.

It is difficult to focus on this last one. I'm doing the same things that I did for the first 3 so I'm relatively confident things should work out. This one has much more finanlity to it and I can't help but think about life after getting a CPA.

I'll just do what I remember my first boss telling me to do” “Sharpen your pencil, and keep your f***ing head down”.

    Words to live by.

Looking back I think people WAY over think REG. I walked into REG slightly (ok a lot) under prepared, and while it sounds a little stupid I'm sure, in a way it helped. I see the posts on here where people WAY over analyze it. Taxes suck but the good thing about REG is the BLAW which for the most part is very intuitive. If you don't let it fluster you on the exam those questions will be relatively easy.

The good thing about the sims is that the literature for the sims is AWESOME. Its practically open book. I used it for every single sim (same for AUD). I think people see the sims, freak the $%@ out and its all downhill from there. My advice would be this… Look at every single sim. Take a minute and have your little freakout… then FOCUS. Go through every single sim and fill in what you know- some sims might still be blank. Then use the literature and look it up. Its ALL in there somewhere. REG sims are more about being a good test taker than they are about what you know I think. So don't freak out if you're unsure about something.

All that being said- practice with the AL beforehand. Its such a great tool but a huge pain in the ass and waste of time if you aren't efficient with it.

I'm going through the same thing. I passed the first 3 with one try and then failed REG. I'm working ridiculous hours and just trying to find the motivation to start studying again πŸ™

@littlenumberrobot It’s good to be back!! A71 is my first step in getting back to studying  We are doing great!! I took a few days off after REG in Dec and went to California. Working two jobs during busy season is ridiculous and idk what I was thinking lol. How are you??

This sums up how I felt about REG . . .

@KellyP – Awh glad to hear. I understand about REG, I am do taxes for living and still cried during my exam. I was shocked I passed. Only one more to go! You are so close. But I cannot imagine two jobs and a busy season. At least busy season is half way over.

I'm waiting for what could be my final score. Busy season got off to a late start for me as I squeezed in AUD end of Feb. I'm hopeful!

Welcome back! You can do it πŸ™‚
