I only have one exam left (REG) but I’m having a hard time studying for it. I find myself finding every excuse not to study. For the last three exams I have put aside my social life and pretty much just study all the time and it has me burnt out.
Not sure if it is a good idea to take a break.

What were your score on the other section? What is your purpose for a CPA? How about the other experience and education requirement to be licensed as a CPA?

March 11, 2016 at 5:49 pm #762250AnonymousInactiveI don't really need the CPA for work. It will look good and may help me get promoted but it was more of a personal goal. I have some people that will pay me to do their taxes and I may try to start a side business doing taxes but don't really know.
I have the education requirements and my first exam would expire in April 2017.
I been trying to study after work this week but every day I crack open the laptop and just stare off into space for two hours before deciding to just watch TV. I think at least I'll take the weekend off and re-evaluate on Monday.
March 11, 2016 at 5:52 pm #762251MaLoTuParticipantYou are not magically going to get your motivation back, even if you take a break. You are over the exam (aren't we all). Just force yourself to study, kill REG and give yourself a permanent break from the exam! Honestly, if you take a break you might not come back to it or you might find that you needed the time to pass REG and then start having to retake sections, which would be the worst!

I was the same way. I had my NTS still cause I bought it with AUD. It was running out so I sat with half ass studying and almost passed. It got me so mad that I failed cause I received such an easy test I should of rocked the s**t out of it. Well long story short I busted my ass restudied everything and got hit with a much much harder exam this time. But passed now I will never have to study again. (But I will cause I want more letters behind my name, but I don't have to)
March 11, 2016 at 7:04 pm #762253jessica8926ParticipantEven before I read this post I saw the title and thought to myself “why the hell would you take a break with one test left?!?!?”. I honestly would not understand your thought process if you chose to take a break. Like everyone else said it will only get harder to start studying again if you wait. You are in the test taking mode and study mode right now so take advantage of it and beat that last one up! Try studying in starbucks or something that will keep you awake and also take away all the comforts of being two feet from the TV and a million other distractions!

March 11, 2016 at 7:16 pm #762254Jdn9201ParticipantEveryone's different, but when I was in your situation, I was the exact opposite. I wanted to start studying for FAR the minute I got my score. I understand burnout, but taking a break at this point is a bad idea. You're so close to being done! It's very easy to have a 1 week break turn into a month turn into a year. Remind yourself why you wanted to do this to begin with and think about how sweet it will be when you are done. When I was studying for tests 1-3, I did schedule some fun time with friends and I gave myself 2 weeks off between each one to enjoy holidays with my family and relax. I do think some of that is needed. My last exam though, I holed myself off for 3 weeks and it was sleep, work, study, rinse & repeat.

I think I was planning on having to retake FAR that I'm shocked that I have to start studying new material already.
March 11, 2016 at 8:28 pm #762256Spartan15ParticipantI think it is really important to take a couple of weeks off from studying if you are feeling burnt out…I tried to start studying right after passing my third exam and nothing was sticking. For me personally, it felt like I was going through the motions of studying but wasn't retaining the info on a level I was used to. I took off around a month or two and just started again and I feel completely reenergized.

I took my last exam (and passed it) before thanksgiving, and i'm still thawing out.Get it over with , you won't feel right for awhile even if you pass.
March 12, 2016 at 9:47 am #762258Texan_176ParticipantDepending on your financial situation NEVER miss a window to test in even if you are not prepared fully. When I went back to school for my needed hours in accounting I was completely broke so I get how it is to not have money to burn when you know you are not ready and will not pass.
It is impossible to just wing it and pass any of these exams but even if you are 50% ready and take the test as a trial run you get exposed to it plus get a gauge of what your level of understanding the material translates to in a score. For me the comfort level the next time around is much greater and it worked for all retakes except by one point for FAR.
If you are feeling burnt out make it a policy to take one day a week completely off no matter what. If you get freaked out maybe just glance over your notes to keep from feeling the info is being depleted in your mind over that one day.
Get out of the test prison as soon as you can.

March 13, 2016 at 12:52 am #762259AnonymousInactiveThanks everyone! I took the day off and had a relaxing day with the SO and I'm ready to jump back in it tomorrow. I'm excited to be finish and have this behind me. I forgot my job has me taking the CGFM this summer. So hopefully i can get this out of the way first.
March 13, 2016 at 1:56 am #762260TncincyParticipantWell, I'm sure everyone has said it in a frank and direct manner, don't stop. One day is a lot different from weeks or months. I am sure you have considered, that if you take too much time you will lose the information as well as more momentum. Why not get it done…..something always happen to create regret,….don't make room for stuff to happen get it done.
