Hey I have a question. I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting and I’m almost finished with the cpa exam (hopefully in may) and I was wondering if the discipline for a master’s degree has to be accounting for me to use it to meet the 150 credit requirement. I now have 130 but I still intended on doing my masters anyway, so i didnt want to do the random courses to meet the 150. The school I had applied to their MSc in accounting programme is full but I got in for my second choice MSc in taxation. I just want to know if the bachelor’s degree in accounting combined with the MSc in taxation will help me meet the licensure requirements for new York.

It depends on whether your state has specific criteria on classes. In Florida you have to have 150 credits, which I have, but 36 of them need to be upper level accounting (including taxation) so I had to go back to school and take all of those even though I had the 150 hours. Check with the NY state board, but I think taxation and accounting would both count.

@mamabear I emailed them and I got a pretty vague answer and they're saying I should submit them for evaluation cause they can't say in a super long email that looked programmed or something. I'm wondering if I can call and get a better response. Which section of the Florida board site do u see the specific criteria?
