My First Post — Brought on by concern!

Hi everyone, I took REG the other day and man was it rough! I walked out of BEC knowing I passed, today I feel kinda like a deflated balloon >_<

I thought I was totally prepared. I passed the first practice exam in Becker with a low pass, but went on to kill the second one with a mid 80s score. My experience with BEC was that the practice exams were much harder (got low passes on the practice exams with a high 80s score on the real thing).

But my gosh! brutal! I guess the fact that the multiple choice (after the first testlet, but even a few in the first) seemed brutal is good? More points for taking hard questions I think? There were multiple concepts Becker never talked about in detail (I know because I went back and checked just to make sure! I am that kind of guy, and yes I know it doesn’t help!). Fortunately I have a little tax experience so I think I nailed some of the surprises.

    But those sims!

I’m 90% sure I missed the research sim by a little (and I suspect those are all of nothing).

One sim I know I got half right, one quarter unsure, one quarter wrong for sure

    One sim about 50-75% right

One sim sort of unsure. Not guessing but it was hit and miss.

Two sims I felt I got 70-100% on. That is optimistic though I think.

Truth be told I think I claimed around half of the points on sims, but I don’t know since I don’t understand sim grading! Some had so few blanks where each blank was so complex even if I got most of the material it could be totally wrong 🙁

Was hoping to have a spring in my step since I’m really busy these days and I wanted to start FAR right away, but now… ugh… Does everyone feel this way after REG? Is it just really hard but with a sweet curve (yes I know it’s not explicitly curved but if the questions are comparing you to other takers it is implicitly curved)?

Becker overprepared me for BEC even though I didn’t do any optional questions and never reworked anything… I actually made the Becker Promise on REG but felt blindsided 🙁

I haven't taken REG yet (5/3/14), but if it makes you feel better I thought I bombed BEC and got my best score.

I was positive when I left Reg that I had failed. I passed with an 88. I don't recall much about the test other than the first testlet was so easy that I thought I had overstudied. It went sharply downhill after that. It was definitely my toughest exam experience (FAR was tougher to study for, but the test itself I was able to finish). I did not finish two of my Sims on Reg: one SIM I had never seen the material before (so could answer nothing on it and the AL was no help), and I ran out of time before I could get to the research Sim.

    REG - Nov 4, 2013: 88
    FAR - Feb 27, 2014: 86
    AUD - April 5, 2014: 91
    BEC - May 6, 2014: 83

Yes, it is common to feel that way after sitting for REG. I really thought I failed my second attempt, but passed. Search the forums or read the ‘experience' thread and you'll find all kinds of people that had the same experience with REG.

Haha. Well this makes me feel slightly better. I think I'm gonna be bold and start moving to the next section 🙂 I know I should of passed I just didn't feel like it went well, but if many feel bad I might be in good company!

I'm the TC BTW, For some reason my account died and it says anonymous now!

Oh Man! Thanks for the good stories, they got me through the LITERAL (ok, 2 days less I think) month I had to wait for this score!

Well, I can tell you guys for sure the curve on REG exists and it is huge. I went back over the questions I was unsure of after I took the exam as I alluded to earlier, and I missed a bunch — especially on the SIMS — but I got an 88!!

    I'm so glad! Thanks guys!
