NC Experience Requirement

I am hoping that my 5 years as Billing manager meet the experience requirement for licensure in NC. Per the NC Board website, four (4) years experience in the field of accounting will meet the qualification. Am I right in assuming this or am I totally off base? My direct supervisor isn’t a CPA; does that matter when trying to meet the 4 years experience in field of accounting qualification?

    FAR: 4/19/2014 - 85!
    AUD: 5/27/2014 - 90!
    REG: 7/18/2014 - 81!
    BEC: 8/13/2014 - 84!

    4 up, 4 down, in 4 months.

That is something I have questioned too. I am also from NC! I have almost been at my job a year as a Tax Auditor and my direct supervisor and manager isn't a CPA. I would maybe call the NCCPA and see what they say. I would love to know myself.

Congrats on passing two exams! I hope I can overcome FAR in 2 weeks.

    AUD - 56, 59, 2/23/15 3rd times a charm!
    BEC - 69, 74 Really??
REG - April, I hope. Fingers crossed!

Hi Tarheelgirl (GO Heels!!). I sent an e-mail to Phyllis. When I asked about education requirements they couldn't tell me anything except for apply and see. Therefore, I'm not expecting much in the way of guidance on this either. I will let you know what I found out though.

Good luck on FAR!! I think it's good you're focused on taking it first. It has helped to know those concepts on AUD and so far in my studies on REG. Plus once you pass, it's such a relief!

That's right, HEELS all the way!!! lol

Thanks. I also have questions on my education requirements too. I'm pretty sure I need 4 more credit hours and hoping I can take any class to get to my 150. I am pretty sure I have my 30 Accounting credit hours taken care of, but once I get there I will see.

Yeah browsing on the website before I started everyone said go with FAR first. I defiantly wasn't going to doubt the people who had been through the process. It is just so much info to know! I am hoping I can come out with at least my first pass this upcoming quarter so I can really get motivated.

What part of NC you from? I live in Wilson now, originally from Dunn.

I would think that the 5 years as a billing manager would definitely qualify as your work experience. I'm in NC as well. GO HEELS! Glad to see others from my “neck of the woods” on here. 🙂

    @tarheel

I did my college outside US. So what I am doing now is that get an evaluation done from NIES( Nasba Inbternational evaluation service ). They will tell me what credits I am short on for the 150 Credit Req. For you if you have done all your credits in US, there should be a pre Licensure evaluation form. For a fee you can fill that out and send it to your board. Colorado board has one. This way they will tell you what credits you are short on.

Here is the link for the PDF for Colorado Board. There should be something like this in Your Board too hopefully.

Thanks @h0wdyus. I have not heard of that and I will defiantly look that up. All of my credits are from the US.

@Tarheel, in Greensboro. Luckily I didn't have to worry about the 150 credit hour education requirement since I have my Masters.

@Tax lady, thanks for the vote of confidence. Phyllis said she had to forward my e-mail to someone else in the licensing area. Still pending a reply from her.

Just got the response. Same as when I asked about the credits I needed to sit for the exam.

“Please refer to NCGS 93-12(5); 21 NCAC 08A .0307-.0315; and 21 NCAC 08F .0400. Pursuant to NCGS 93-12(5), you must complete either one year under the direct supervision of a CPA (in public accounting or in industry) or four years if the direct supervisor is not a CPA. You may apply for certification when you have passed the exam and have met the experience requirements. The staff and Board do not review and/or approve experience unless it is submitted with a complete certificate application package.”
