    I need advice from some of you folks that currently work for CPA firms. So I’m graduating with my MAcc in December this year and I start work at public accounting firm at the very beginning of January. I’m recently married and my wife is applying to med schools for the fall of 2015, but the problem is there aren’t any med schools in the city that I’ll be working in. She only applied to schools were the firm that I’m working for has offices. How likely is it that they’ll let me transfer to another office even if I’ve only been working there for 6 months? And how should I bring up this to them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 88
    FAR - 78
    REG -

    It really depends on the needs of the other offices at the time you want to switch. I would make friends with someone (manager or above) who has ties in another office to make the transition smoother, just in case. Bonus if this person can also be your mentor in the firm.

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

    *This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂

    @Amay

    I see that you have began the road to CPA since 2009 and nearing the end here in 2014. I am by no means trying to knock you or anything as I haven't even taken my first exam yet and just started my journey, but am curious on how you persisted for about 5 years and a number of tests? I just started studying for FAR and already feel the need to find an exit…

    Easy: this is my second (and real) attempt at the exam. I had been studying on and off for a number of years since I graduated. When I failed my first exam in 2009 (BEC) I took really long to take it again. I was still in school and had a lot going on. After I passed in 2010, I attempted one more but I still had no clue how to study for these back then, and life got in the way big time that year. I ended up getting married, getting my masters, starting work at a big 4 practically at the same time. Long story short:

    2009 – procrastinating student with no clue

    2010 – crazy life changes and still clueless

    2011 – Big 4 newlywed, still not making the exam a priority (I think I paid for an exam or 2 and didn't even show up!)

    2012 – took the whole year off after realizing it wasn't going to happen at B4

    2013 -I finally got serious when I got a new job! (And I started using the awesome NINJA tips!)

    It has not been fun. I am ready to finish once and for all!
