Hello fellow future CPAS (I watch becker a lot)

My Becker FAR class starts Monday the 7th, and lasts every Monday/Wed Until August 9th. My exam is on October 6th. Why so far you may ask? I failed this one in Dec. 2013, and out of all the CPA exams this one actually makes me nervous/worried. Last time I took far I got a 39.

Now a Couple Questions on this:

What is best way to study for FAR?

At what point should I ask my self to move my exam up or post pone it?

How many times should I view the Becker Lectures?

What is best way to use the Ninja Book (when it comes out) with my Becker Book?

I am pretty sure if I fail this exam again, I will need another Job. Class has not even begun yet, and I am already freaking over it.

I don't use Becker or Ninja material, but I did pass FAR. I'd just recommend studying 200 hours or so before your test.

Read the material. Do multiple choice after each chapter. Then read the material. Then do multiple choice. Then read the text and focus on your weak points. Then do multiple choice. Also do Simulations of course.

There is no secret to passing. Just put in the work. Even when you are 100% prepared the exam will be very difficult. Be confident and stay dedicated. Good luck.

I got a 39 first time around because my NTS was about to expire and I crammed FAR into a little less than 1 month. Just viewed the lectures and maybe did 2 HW.

I am worried that by the time I'm done with Last Becker lecture I will forget what I did in the first lecture and it will be same thing. Any recommendations for this?

With a long study period like that, forgetting is definitely a concern. What I did was build in regular review periods, where after a couple of weeks of reviewing a chapter I would go over it again and do some questions. Also make sure you have plenty of time at the end to review everything.

If the Becker program is designed so you can get through all the material and then go take the test, can you consider taking it at the end of August instead of waiting until October?

After I re-do ALL of the MCQs for all 10 chapters, i'm probably going to spend the rest of my time doing practice tests so that I don't forget. I also took notes while going through the HW the first time around which is really helpful when you GO BACK to review, especially for the HW. IF i have time, during my review, i may either re-watch the lectures OR just re-read the chapters, but only if i have time after re-doing all the homework questions for each chapter :/ i'm allocating a review of two days per chapter… hopefully i can get through everything quicker and have extra time to possibly re-read or just re-read my notes if i don't have extra time. I have the NINJA audio which i plan on listening to, sometime, during my review, hopefully, if time allows lol.

keep in mind im studying all day, 6 days a week for probably 6-8 hours or more if needed.

also, the Becker “outlines” in the portal help me alot too for review. not a lot of people talk about that .

idk if my input helped at all but just thought i'd share ha. i am almost desperate, hopefully that will be a great plan for a pass.. and what kimboroni said, maybe you should schedule for like end of august beginning of september if you can study a lot of hours until then. or just practice tests all the time or get the ninja notes/audio for review so you dont forget

I work full time. So my study time is 2-4 hours ok weekdays and anywhere from 4-12 hours on a sat or sun.

If I feel ready by the end of August I will move exam up. But it is a big if. September is a black out month so it's a no go there.

I got the ninja audio, and plan on listening to it when ever I can. I'm more worried about forgetting everything by the end of the 2nd week of August my goal is to watch the Becker lectures at least 1, and get through the the hw at least once. Everything is up in the air after that as I'm not sure what to do.

Ninja audio is great. I keep the CD in my car and listen to it every time I'm driving. All of the repetition definitely helps.

I think you could move it up to August 31st if you start studying immediately. That's 8 weeks of studying and you could get to 140 hours just by doing the minimum of 2 hours per weekday and 4 hours each on Sat and Sun. You wn't study those hours every single day and you'll study more some days. I don't think you should factor in the 39 at all because it seems like you just took it without any real preparation. You say you studied for 4 weeks, but was it quality studying or just haphazard trying to get through the material? I agree that you take on an additional 4 weeks to the 8 weeks you have between now and the end of August and you are looking at the possibility of getting so burnt out that you get slack on it towards the end and start forgetting things, but if you are planning on watching every lecture and reading every chapter then you will probably need that extra time because that is all stuff that will cut into your actual quizzing time, which is essential to making sure you are understanding the lectures and the book. If you don't have other obligations besides work it is totally doable before August 31st.

I would really not wait two months between the time you finish the study material and the time you actually take the test. I understand that you want to be cautious as a result of your previous score, but you need to take the exam when the material is fresh in your head. For that reason, I've personally tried to limit my pre-test review to around a week, although I spent a few days more on top for FAR since it was my first test.

I also just scrolled up to read your other post. Look, if you don't do the MCQs, you will fail FAR, and it explains why you did so poorly the first time around. MCQs are the absolute best way to understand the material. When you go through questions, don't stop at identifying why the right answer is right. Figure out what's wrong about the other three choices and what topics they actually relate to. If you get a question wrong, understand why.

I would recommend doing progress tests over all of the material as you intermittently move through modules. It helped me remember a lot of the early stuff.

I used Becker, too. Good luck!
