I’ve heard Robert half referenced before, and am inquiring if anyone here would recommend it for job search purposes. I’m trying to gauge how valuable a resource it is.

Is it valuable other than providing salary data?

    Thank you.

I used them when I was looking for my current job. Honestly, they didn't really give me any of the jobs I was looking for. Every job that came my way, I really felt like I was being sold on it. The plus side is that I was able to do a number of “practice interviews.” Also, they told me the salary I was looking for was “unrealistic.” I found my current job using indeed and got the salary I wanted plus bonuses.

I've been working with RH for a good 6 months now, as @AICPA Beach mentioned, they act as intermediaries and get paid by commission, so sometimes you may end up in a job that is way lower than your qualification like myself, but when you have some bills to pay at the end of the month you would be obliged to agree, it's a good way to look for jobs if you really need one, prove yourself with one of the employers and perhaps they would most likely hire you, I would personally recommend to look for both full time jobs and try your luck with RH and other recruiting firms, and whatever comes first grab it and keep looking around, good luck with your job search!

They are interested in earning the commission from the jobs they have available.

If you think that you will get a tailored treatment, that's probably not what's going to happen. They also like to push applicants to one of the internal jobs at Accountemps.

I used Robert Half while living in southern California. The recruiter helped me polish my resume and interview skills. At the time I was a recent graduate. I was sent on two interviews. I got an offer from one of the companies. It was a temp to hire position. I worked as a temp for 1 month (training on accounting software) and then was hired full time. 3 of my colleagues at that company had also used Robert Half to get there jobs.

I would recommend RH if you are having trouble finding jobs in your area. I tried another agency (Apple One) when I was job hunting and had very little luck. I jumped through all the hoops…took computer proficiency tests, met with recruiters, applied for jobs…nothing ever came of it.

I would also research local temp agencies in your area…sometimes they have fewer candidates competing for jobs.

    Best of luck!

I'm also curious about this as well… I noticed a lot of job postings for accountemps as well. What is exactly is it? Is it a department within RH?

Accountemps is a sister company of RH.

It's basically a glorified temp agency. They organize it as a team based or client based assignments, but basically, you get assigned to different temp jobs based on projects or jobs that Accountemps received from its list of clients.

RH only offer you jobs that pays very low and required a lot of experience… which makes no sense… I hate that company, they're idiots.

you send them your resume, and a local RH agency staffing manager may call you up to come in to do an assessment on you (excel proficiency test + quick basic interview). if your staffing manager likes you, he will ask you if want to join RH as their candidate. a company will contact RH and ask them to send in candidates to fill their open position, RH will send the company your resume + many other RH candidates' resumes, and the company will let the staffing manager know who they choose to bring in for the interview.

if the company picks one of the RH candidates to hire, they pay RH a weekly fee, which RH will use some of it to pay your 9 – 13 USD hrly rate on a weekly basis. how long you remain as a RH temp depends on the contract w/ the company + may be what you pick when you answer the question ‘whats the longest time range you would like to work as a temp'

Robert Half, like any recruiting agency/firm, can be a great resource. Some people love recruiters and some people hate recruiters, but in my experience, ALOT of accounting departments heavily/exclusively rely on recruiters/firms like Robert Half to fill their open positions. My old company posts jobs online – but doesn't really have anyone who has time to look through the applications – so they basically exclusively use recruiters to fill open spots. Ever feel like your applications are going into a black hole? that's why!

Now, if you are entry level or if you live in the middle of nowhere, recruiters generally become less useful.

I agree that a lot of companies don't hire directly. Most use one agency that they have had success with in the past. The good news is that it gets your foot in the door (albeit at a lower rate), but that rate will go up if hired on and you will have a job to get experience. If you have a lot of experience already then you will probably have better results doing your own thing, but if you need experience temping or contract or temp to hire positions could get you where you want to be.

You don't have to accept a job just because they throw it at you. I worked with them for month's and turned down tons of jobs because they did not fit my strict criteria. In the end, lead to a 35% total comp raise for me. You have to be patient and not jump at everything they send your way.
