Need to make connections in Tampa, FL

I just moved to the Tampa, Florida area. I haven’t been able to find anything. I’m a licensed CPA in the state of New York. I’m going to apply for endorsement in Florida to be licensed.

I’m looking for people that might be able to help me find a job in Tampa. I have experience working at small CPA firms preparing financial statements (compilations and reviews), tax returns for all types of businesses, non-profits, and trusts, bookkeeping, sales taxes, payroll taxes, and a/p.

The salary i’m looking for is $40,000 to $55,000. This seems reasonable with about two years experience. I have excellent references. Is anyone located in Tampa that could help me?

How many small CPA firms have you physically walked inside, introduced yourself, and handed a manager/partner your resume and given your elevator pitch about what you can do to help them?

Well I am in this area. Are you involved in the FICPA? You can meet so many people that way and if you get involved you will make even more connections. Also the Tampa FICPA Chapters often have free social events, so there really is no excuse not to participate.

This. I joined the FICPA as a student member 3 years ago and never reupped (since I live in another state) and they still invite me to events all the time.

You may have a bit of trouble being from NY. There's a stigma attached to that in Tampa. Not an accounting example, but I know the Florida bar doesn't allow reciprocity from NY.

I know someone in Brandon looking to sell a practice if you're interested. That, or my company's accounting office in Davenport will be looking for someone soon.

I brought my resume to several CPA firms. I would estimate 10-15. I had my first interview at a firm on Friday. There was talks of a second interview because the principals were not in the office on Friday. I have a second interview with a small CPA firm tomorrow.

I'm going to check out the FICPA. I'm going to look into Verizon. I'm considering Davenport. Is it a big firm? I'm open to relocation in Florida.

I'm definitely interested in working with Metlife. Any accounting job with them would probably be fine with me. Not sure if it's OK to post my email address. I would like to send you my email address or info RP 12. So, you can refer me.
