Hi Everyone, this is the company I really want to get in, I think they really need someone, so I have my first in-person interview without a phone screen from HR, but I did very bad on a second in-person interview (behavioral questions, my resume looks like I am a job hopper. I know I didn’t answer it well) I am so mad at myself, but I already accept the fact I lost the offer. However, after 1 week of my second in-person. I got an email from the HR. Asking me to fill out the background check authorization form and schedule a phone interview. During the phone interview, the HR asks me a lot of behavioral questions and my salary expectation. And the HR also called my reference person, and ask him a lot of questions. I do not want to put my hope up, and get disappointed again, but I really want to know how likely I can get my offer. Base on the information, what do you guys think? Thank you.

I think you get the job unless your reference person said you are a moron or you were in jail for embezzlement years ago .:)

@marqzho Thanks, I wish I can get that offer. The reference person is my best friend, unless he is a really good actor! otherwise he will not say anything bad about me. It is just weird to me, they have in-person interview with the accounting team first, and then have a phone interview later with HR. I hope the phone interview it is not just for HR to make up the paperwork.

Background check and calling references is usually a formality before being hired.

To put in perspective (if I remember right), my firm requested the background stuff AFTER they extended an offer

Yeah, it is very peculiar for them to call references prior to an offer. Maybe it is different for industry vs public accounting.

I would guess if they are checking references you are more than likely getting an offer.

It was not an interview with a recruitment agency? I know they call references before placement.

@MaLoTu she works directly inside the company, not a recruitment agency. And it is not public accounting. I asked her what will be the procedure after this phone interview, she told me we are approaching the final stage, and I should expect to hear from her by next Friday.

@acamp thanks. I feel better know. Sorry I post some stupid questions on the forum, but it really bothers me.
