New Hire- How to ask for vacation time

    So I am starting with a Big 4 firm in January and was curious how/if I can ask for a day or two off during busy season. I know the dates of my actual busy season will vary depending on the clients I am assigned, but it sounds as it usually goes from 1/1 – 3/31.

    Is taking a day off during busy season unheard of for a new hire?

    I was hoping to take 3/7 (Monday) off so I can attend an event, and would need the whole weekend off. Would I assume I am working Saturdays, and ask for that off as well? I thought I should probably inform HR now because once I start it would only be giving them 2 months notice.

    Anyone have a similar experience? Or for those who have been in the workforce for a few years, how would you advise?

    I definitely do not want to come into the firm starting on a bad note…

    Just communicate with your team and ask for 2 personal days. Contact as early as possible.

    @Another85

    Since I do not start until 1/4, I do not know what engagement I am on yet… Would you recommend contacting HR asking for my schedule, and the corresponding managers?

    Anytime you start a new job, and you know you have to miss time or have doctor's appointments, let them know before your first day. They appreciate it.
