Hi I wonder if anyone in this forum had an experience with the New Jersey application process.

I am graduating this May 2014 with 150 credits. However, some of my credits were told by my friends that are duplicated and may have to take some extra classes.

I really want to start my CPA application now before I get crazy studying for my final exams and I have enough time to summit all my required documents and sit for the first exam in early July.

I also want to start my application for the exam to see if I actually have to take some extra credits to get my 150 because I need it to start my job.

If in the case that I need some extra credits, with my Bachelor’s degree, am I still eligible to take the exam this summer? I have everything except for the 2 semester of Finance courses which I read somewhere that I can fill out a waiver for it. Did anyone go through the same thing?

My goal is to get all 4 parts done this summer before I start my full time job in September. However, I know that the NTS will expire in 6 months. So just in case I feel like I need to have more time to take all the 4 parts, I think I should apply for 2 parts first and then another 2 parts later. Do you think I still have enough time to apply for the 2 parts after let say I take my first exam and feel comfortable with the exam process and decide to get all of them done that summer?

Thank you so much for your help! all inputs are appreciated even you are not from New Jersey but have had a similar experience with the exam.

from my countless inquiries and from a friend who did the exact same thing who will also works at a big 4 firm, nj board does not care where the credits come from – it could be from anywhere including your local community college. in addition all you need to sit for the exam is a degree in accounting from a 4 year school. the 150 gets waived when you sit after you graduate. so if you plan to get your licence in nj, all you need is to have 150 hours in college credits (from anywhere and in anything) and a degree in accounting from a 4 year school. it took me a very long time to figure all this out but after asking around, i was able to piece that together. if you plan to work in nyc, ny is different so consider the differences (which im not entirely familiar with)

    FAR: PASSED
    REG: PASSED
    AUD: PASSED
    BEC: PASSED

I agree w/ scarletknight91. The 150 credit can pretty much be anything at this point in NJ. The rule about how many credits needed to be what was something required back in the day.

    BEC - 80
    AUD - 64, 75 - credit lost, 90!!
    REG - 73, 74, 83
    FAR - 61, 72, 85

Feels good finishing on my best note. Time to watch the mailbox.

Thank you so much for your help! Yes! I want to be licensed in NJ. Does anyone have any suggestions about when I should apply to sit for the exam if I want to take my first exam in early July and the fact that I'm still in school now and graduate in May?

    Thank you!

    Question fellows NJ'ers,

I have 150 credits right now with like 33 of them in accounting and an M.S. in acct. The problem is I have surprisingly never taken an auditing class (wasn't part of the MS curriculum shockingly) Do you think I have to go back and take a single undergrad audit class?

    Thanks

The safest way to know is to contact the state board directly.
