New "Wiley CPAexcel" a HUGE disappointment

So, just a vent, but the new CPAexcel options are dreadful. You basically can buy the very expensive Video Gold Medal course or you can get the Wiley books and Testbank.

This is just awful for me–I was hoping to have the bite-sized online lesson format (without video!) for an affordable price (300/section). Also, the old CPAexcel books were much better (for me) than the dry Wiley material.

Just really disappointed they made this change, as I had finally settled on their material, and now going to have to move on to a competitor.

There is a market for a streamlined, online course that is not JUST A TEST BANK and is also not VIDEO courses….something that is devoted to the self-studiers that want more guidance/features than a test bank provides but don’t need video lecturse.

    UGH

    To follow up:

Are there other courses that are similar to the OLD CPAexcel?

The video gold is only $1500 for all 4 sections (which is the same price that it has been for awhile). This is way less than any other comparable products I have seen out there.I purchased CPAExcel prior to the Wiley update and I don't notice any difference in the products. Not sure what you were seeing before. It has the bite sized lessons including study text and videos.

    AUD - 2/1/2014 - 92
    BEC - 2/8/2014 - 79
    REG - 5/17/2014
    FAR - 5/21/2014

    CA Ethics Exam - Passed

The option to get the SELF STUDY (without the video) is gone.

That was about $700 for all four sections or $270 for each.

I don't like/benefit from lectures. They are too slow for me, and I hate wasted time. I wanted access to an online program (just like theirs) without being forced to buy the video lectures (which I won't use).

    That's a huge jump in price (800) for something I don't want or need…

The title of this post is a bit misleading.

Wiley CPAexcel consolidated their product, you can't get mad at that.

But have you researched Gleim CPA? They have the book and software option

I like the structure of Gleim online. It comes with a test bank, sim wizard and each exam section is broken up into 20 mini study sections. I used Gleim and Wiley (not the new version).

I'm kind of confused about all the Wiley/CPAexcel options. Are you talking about this series of books by O. Ray Whittington?:

…if so, I've got to respectfully disagree. I hate all the typos (SOOOOO many typos!!!!), but otherwise I've been quite satisfied so far. That said, I've only read AUD so far, so maybe I won't like the content presentation of the others.

As for “bite-sized online lesson format (without video!)”, it seems to me like you might be referring to something like the Focus Notes:

If this isn't want you're talking about, then disregard this…

    AUD: 88
    BEC: 79
    REG: 81
    FAR: 72 » 74 » 88

Study method: 100% watching videos, including solving problems covered therein; no books, paper, or pencils

Oh, yes, the typos. I have it from when it was just branded Wiley, and this is my favorite (from memory, so not quite accurate, but it's something like this):

In BEC, technology module (I was directed here by the AUD section):

Near the beginning: “Please turn to the end of this module to review the glossary of terms for this module.”

At the end: “Since there are so many terms in this module, there is no glossary of terms.”

But I agree that if you can look past those, it is quite good.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

I see EXACTLY what you are talking about. And I also see that they only grant one year access when CPAExcel was unlimited. I've got the old self-study version. I sure hope they don't cut me off as I may lose a credit. Dang, for the money CPAExcel was the best thing out there. Too bad they sold out.

    FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
    BEC- 75
    REG- 60,60,75
    AUD- 74,74,83

CPAExcel used for BEC, AUD, REG
Exam Matrix used for FAR plus NINJA Blitz, cpareviewforfree and a little CPAExcel
