NINJA MCQ’s or Wiley TB with Roger review course?

    NINJA Question –

I am currently using the 2014 Roger review course to study for my first exam (FAR) and have noticed the lack of multiple choice questions.

I am also seeing the same questions multiple times (in the lecture.. class questions.. study questions.. and online practice questions..) and am searching for a program to practice more questions.

Would you guys recommend NINJA or Wiley?

Also, how would you recommend using either one? (should I complete the whole FAR review course through Roger and then complete all of the MCQ’s as a review… or should I use both resources simultaneously?)

If you recommend NINJA, would you purchase just the MCQ’s or both MCQ’s and Notes?

    Thanks!

I am in the same boat as you–I'm using Roger and as much as I trust his lectures, I'm apprehensive to put full trust in his MCQ. My current strategy is viewing the lectures and class questions and then doing the study questions on my own. I'm not even bothering using the online practice questions because I plan on getting Ninja MCQ once I'm through with all the lectures and have a decent overall understanding.

I cannot attest to Wiley, but the consensus on this forum seems to be that Ninja MCQ are top of the line. I have the Ninja Notes and Audio–Notes are nice at work, Audio is nice during my commutes.

I use Roger and supplemented with Wiley for Reg and passed. Now supplementing with Ninja for AUD and there seems to be a much larger database of questions with Ninja.

    REG - 82
    AUD - 97
    BEC - 81
    FAR - 84
    DONE!

    FutureHokieCPA,

I currently complete all of the online practice questions and feel as if it is redundant.

I was considering doing exactly as you say (finishing Roger then practicing NINJA MCQ's).. if you happen to struggle on some areas while using NINJA, are you going to use the Roger book to review the respective material?.. or will you just use the explanations given after each NINJA MCQ?

Any other responses are greatly appreciated.. I am leaning towards NINJA but am still not sure whether to simultaneously use Roger and NINJA or finish Roger and then practice NINJA..

If any one else has used a review course (Becker, Roger, etc.) with a NINJA supplement, did you use them simultaneously or what? Any did you just use MCQ's or did you add the NINJA Notes as well?

I used Roger for FAR and supplemented the course with WTB, got an 80 in my FAR exam.

Currently studying for AUD and supplementing Roger with Ninja notes (they are awesome), WTB and Gleim Test bank.

I wouldn't advice just studying from Roger Test Bank, its not sufficient.

I have heard a lot of positive comments on Ninja MCQ's, I would have loved to have them if I did not have WTB.

WTB has lots of mistakes in SIMS and MCQ's, which could get irritating at times.

    FAR - 80 (Roger + Wiley TB) May 2014
    AUD - 82 (Roger + Gleim TB + Wiley TB) August 2014
    REG - 79 (Gleim + Gleim TB) November 2014
    BEC - 85 (Gleim + Gleim TB) January 2015

I have Roger, but from May 2013 so access to WTB was included… I wish I had NINJA because now that is what everyone is using. I saw that post the other day with the trending NINJA scores vs. actual test score. There used to be posts like that about WTB. I'm taking AUD tomorrow, so I'm plugging away on the WTB. I have done some of Roger's questions, but I was having trouble seeing my history, I'd get a score on that set, but then have no history of that set or any other.

If I had to choose now, I'd buy NINJA. I really like the other NINJA products I own and there is this amazing forum to come to discuss.

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

I will use the explanations given after each NINJA MCQ and go over it in more detail in the Roger book if needed. I also have my old intermediate accounting textbooks to use for reference as a last resort (I really don't want to pull those out haha)

How much longer do you have before the exam?

    FutureHokieCPA,

I am ~40% of the way through the FAR review course (about to finish Sect. 12: Leases).. My schedule was messed up because I started studying with the intentions of taking FAR in September.. then I realized it's a blackout month so I'm shooting for October..What about you?

With the extra time I want to make sure I am fully prepared.. which is why I'm asking about NINJA vs. Wiley..

I like the study plan you mention: finish Roger.. study NINJA.. review Roger where necessary.

Does the Roger material contain an actual practice exam? (I saw that NINJA does.. but I couldn't find one on Roger).

    Charlie,

Thank you for the input. I'm glad to see Wiley is working for you. Good luck!

I absolutely recommend NINJA as a supplement to Roger, or any course. Roger's lectures are great, and I like his test bank is well, but you can't beat the additional volume of questions + the adaptive learning component.

I would definitely recommend the NINJA MCQs. The explanations provided with the answers (and the accompanying literature on the topic presented) are essentially a review course in their own right. Supplement that with a basic understanding going into the MCQs and you'll be set. My method of studying is to go through all of my reading materials first (which was Roger for BEC and the NINJA Notes for REG, AUD, and now FAR) and then constantly drill on the MCQs (WTB for BEC and NINJA MCQs for the other exams), taking notes on important topics and formulas as I go through them.

I thought the WTB did a decent job of preparing me for BEC because I wasn't familiar with most of the material going into studying for that exam, but after their recent upgrade I'm not too eager to utilize them again. I did a few sets of MCQs in the WTB while studying for REG when the NINJA MCQs were down for a few hours and the questions seemed far too easy to me. Either that or the NINJA MCQs really do just enjoy driving me insane with the constant barrage of areas I'm weak in. 🙂 It definitely works, though!

Do you guys read all the material in Roger's books? I am currently studying for FAR and finding reading from the book a bit overwhelming but yet kinda helpful…

are the lectures and MCQs enough to grasp the concepts>?

I would like to hear someone's experience. I feel that Ninja MCQs is a must if you're using Roger. His questions aren't enough

I got through AUD and BEC fine using just Roger's textbook + MCQ + a good readthrough of ninja notes. I'm not sure about FAR yet, but getting extra questions for $47 would probably be a good way to get some more questions if you feel like you aren't getting enough.. His books seem a little overwhelming because they pretty much cover everything he says in the videos. I really liked his textbook.

I used Roger for FAR supplemented by Ninja MCQs. Watched all of his lectures, read his book entirely and did all of his MCQs and SIMs. Then purchased Ninja MCQs and this combination got me the pass; it was my first CPA exam.

FWIW, his lectures are excellent, his book is so so and his test bank is a joke.

Do you guys use Ninja Mcqs after each section? or do you guys do NINJA after finishing all of Roger's materials?

Some section I feel weak on and hesitant to move to the next section… Advice needed 🙂
