NINJA's, Wiley's, and Becker's….oh my!

Okay, i know the title is a bit of a stretch and is a bit cheesy, but I wasn’t sure how to title it.

I want to get some opinions.

I used Becker to take AUD the end of May 2013 before the clarity project and I did the videos, read the text, did the questions, the whole kitten caboodle. I ended up not passing….I was close, but didn’t pass. For a number of reasons I didn’t get back to the CPA exam until only recently, but I am ready to go whole hog on this bad boy! WAIT! Becker in his infinite wisdom has chosen to expire my license. AWESOME! (sarcasm).

So My question is this. I have the Becker texts which are pre-June 2013 versions which seem to be rather detailed which I like. I also really like the NINJA audio, and then WTB seems to be the way to go as far as MCQ’s and SIMS although I wish the mobile app would update with the new 2014 questions.

The problem with the Becker videos even if I still had access to them is that they seem to go on FOOORRREEEVVVEEERRRR and are fairly boring. Don’t get me wrong, I love accounting, but their delivery is lacking. I wish there was something more engaging, I have read about Rogers on here, what exactly is different between Rogers and Becker videos?

So it all comes down to this, has anyone used the Becker Texts with NINJA Audio, WTB and some other video provider? OR is there a “better way?”

ANY advice here would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I know if I retake AUD (which hopefully I won’t have to, I retook it earlier this month) then obviously the pre-calification project texts wouldn’t cut it.

I have been using Roger's throughout my CPA journey. I am currently studying for AUD as well, and I must say this section is a bit dry, not sure anyone can make it any less dry. That being said, I like Roger, his style is upbeat and I find myself engaged in his lectures, and they are broken up into smaller sections which really helps. I would suggest going on his website for a course demo, that way you can tell if Roger is the guy for you. Good Luck!!!

My vote is to skip lectures unless you are a strong visual learner. I found them to be a little too boring to keep attention. I didn't use Becker, but I got more from reading the book (Kaplan for BEC and AUD and Wiley for FAR) and working a lot of MCQs, taking a lot of notes, and listening to the Ninja Audio. If you are diligent enough you could pass using only the WTB (since it has a textbook link feature for each question, thousands of MCQ/SIMS, and gives you the opportunity to focus on one section at a time) and the Ninja products. If you buy the complete set of Ninja products, you get the Flashcards, the Audio (for listening in the car or at work), the Notes (which serves as a guide and are great for adding your own notes to), and access to the Blitz videos. The blitz videos are shorter that review material lectures and drill main points versus loading you down with other nonsense. All of these things are for higher level and you can use the textbook link in the WTB to get your detail on various topics. There was actually someone who posted on here that they passed all 4 parts only using the WTB and ninja products. They didn't watch a single lecture or read a book, but they were agressive in their studying and very motivated. You could do that and it would save you a ton of money and unnecessary reading/watching videos. I am actually thinking about trying that for REG, which I'll start studying for next month.

@CPAMommyof3 – How did your tactic of no videos work out for you? Pretty effective?

I am all for using something with less cost since I spent a fortune on Becker only for it to expire on me. Ugh! Very frustrating!

I have NINJA notes and Audio and reeeaaaallyy like them a LOT more than Becker, and I feel I absorb it a little better.

Since I have the Becker texts, do you think there would be a problem using them even though they are a year old as long as I don't use the AUD book?

The more I think about it, I think NINJA and WTB are the way to go. Do you remember who it was that passed without only using these two?

Has anyone else studied without videos? Which text did you use? I just need to know if my Becker texts will be okay to use in concert with my NINJA notes and audio.

Also does anyone know a way to utilize the entire WTB MCQs on my phone? I already got the app, but it is not updated with the 2014 questions.

I passed AUD with an 85 without watching videos. I don't have my score for FAR yet so I can't tell you if not watching the videos worked for that. I don't know who it was that passed only using Wiley and Ninja, but I'll do a search and see if I can find the thread.
