So it looks like governmental reporting (not accounting) is my kryptonite. Everything else I more or less comprehend. Its not necessarily the concepts of government, its like Im never sure what fund gets reported in what way.

Whats sucks is that this topic is like 20% of the exam, lol. Ive watched the Becker video, read the gleim book section on it (ridiculous) and now Im reading the ninja book, and its still not clicking. Can’t say I didn’t try, lol.

What would you do in my situation?

Focus on the fund types and the presentation of the statements, like what is on them. Becker prepares you very well for this portion of the exam.

Almost always from my phone... please excuse my typos!

Get a copy of the most recent CAFR for a jurisdiction with which you're familiar. That's been a huge help for me. The MD&A and letter of transmittal have to be written on a level that even a politican can understand, so the explanations – at least with the one I'm using – are very succinct.

Give it a shot, but BEFORE you stab your eyes out.

“Written on a level even a politician can understand” – that's a GASB requirement, isn't it? I bet you see that on your exam!

Ha! I speak from experience. Our top elected official once took my boss to task because it was taking us more than six months (this was about five years ago) to set up the infrastructure to accept credit cards at our intake counters (annual cash inflows approximately $20M.)

Direct quote, in open session: “I don't understand this. Why can't we just put those little swipe machines at all the stations? They have it at the deli* downstairs.”
