Hi all, I just passed my last exam this week. What am I supposed to do now? Wait for an email/package?

Also, do full-time accounting internships qualify as work experience? Thanks.

Do not wait for the mail. Mine took forever and a day and it just told me to go online.

Submit all the forms (it tells you online what to do). Give it a few weeks and call them regularly. My education got held up at NASBA because they checked the wrong box and said I was deficient (no joke). I now call the state board at least once a week to check on the status.

But do not wait. Do everything now. Send in all the forms asap!

Just an FYI the state board is and I quote “going through a transistion phase” and they are behind on processing applications.

All I have so far are full-time internship experiences… do those count?

Are you still at the firm you got the experience from? What does your boss or the partners at the firm say? As long as they are NY CPAs and are willing to document your experience and sign the form, then you have a shot.

This is what NY state says about qualifying experience quoted from the NY form 4B

“What is acceptable experience? An applicant must present evidence, satisfactory to the State Board for Public Accountancy, of full-time experience providing accounting services or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax or consulting skills under the supervision of a certified public accountant licensed in one of the U.S. jurisdictions or a public accountant licensed in New York State. Acceptable experience may be earned in a public accounting firm, government, private industry or an educational institution.”

I also would like to find out what experience would be “satisfactory” to the board, as in what experience breakdown are they looking for on the form 4B? Perhaps someone who is familiar with the process can enlighten me.

i was wondering if experience under supervision from a relative would count.

Also, I only have ~6 months of FT internship experience. Are we supposed to apply after having 1 year of experience?

@noodles,, applying after you get one year would probably be better. This way you can send in all your forms at the same time and don't have to worry about them losing anything.

I'm on the same boat, passed the exams but no experience yet as I'm starting work in a couple weeks. So I shouldn't do anything until I get that year of experience? Or is there certain things I should do in the meantime to maybe speed up the process once I get the experience?

I passed in May (New York). I filled out 4/4b and send everything upstate. I learned not to long ago that it's been approved by Albany and sent to “the board”. ETA? 18 weeks. That's right, eighteen weeks.

What was refreshing about this process is that they actually had all my transcripts and edu information back from when I first applied to take it years ago (long pause since).

Looking to get my stuff stamped and back to me by… December '14?

Does anybody know the phone number, or know where I can get a phone number, for the state board? Everyone keeps saying to contact the board and make sure they have received your documents, and get periodic status updates. I'm just not sure who exactly I should be calling.

Somebody has also mentioned that there is an email address that I can reach out to?

    — I'm also in NY by the way!

    Thanks!
