One Wave. One Month. March 2011.

One Wave. One Month. March 2011.
At first thought, I was kinda upset they are only releasing scores in one wave...but it actually will be more beneficial for me to have my score in March b/c I am taking 2 exams this window and usually get distracted after the 1st exam waiting on my score. This way I can move on and will basically be forced to focus on my 2nd exam in Feb. :) Good luck to everyone taking exams in Jan/Feb window!
March 2011 hey?! So that means Wisconsin should have their scores in May. We are still waiting on wave 2 scores from October/November. :(
If scores will be released in One Wave, One Month - March 2011, is there is any difference if a CPA candidate take the test on 1/4/11 or 2/28/11.
With there only being one wave in March 2011, does this mean the score will be released somewhere around March 15th? Also how does this help people that are running close on expiring scores?? By the time you get your scores you will have to start studying the next day to get enough studying time in before the next window starts. I know they are doing this only for a matter of time, but I believe they should at least be a little more lenient towards test takers for the first few quarters. It is only fair.
well put wishfulthinking.
all the score release waves always just made me annoyed because i always felt like i was on that website checking. If you take it 1/5/11 and find out you failed, it's not like you can try to take by the end of februrary anyway. If they let us know mid march, we still have plenty of time to start studying and take again in april.
Maybe they'll even get real fancy and email us scores or email when scores are up. I already feel better about 2011.
Is anyone else anxious though about the whole "changing a passing score" thing?
I'll be honest, if they made it a 70, I would have 3 sections passed already, and have spent at least $1,000 extra than necessary. I'd be pretty annoyed as i'd be practically done this process by now.
Also, did anyone else read through the 2010 score release statistics? I'm so confused how i've gotten 73s and 74s on audit and far...yet the pass rates were a disaster. You mean you couldn't round up a few more people..just a few? I've gotten in the 50's and 60's and I know they were deserved--I didn't know the material. But a 73 on AUD when you only passed 44% of people? C'mon...
I wrote an article about it...

Score Release Prediction Dates:

Jeff, Do you happen to know if all the "OLD NASBA States" (Indiana, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Puerto Rico, Vermont) will be updated to the new online scoring page before the March score release? That would be nice, since we could receive our scores earlier.
Not sure, Herbert. I'll ask NASBA if there are more states added to the "early" list.
So let me get this straight... If you're taking a section in January or February, you'll possibly be going into the test blind as to what the passing score will be? How can you go in and take a test without knowing what the passing score is? That makes no sense.
and I quote:
"BOE final review and establishment of passing scores will take place at the end of the first testing window for the new exam."
I see the quote. It can be interpreted differently I think. They're obviously stating that they're going to be establishing the new passing score at the end of the first testing window, but they don't say whether it applies to the first quarter or becomes effective in the second quarter. Maybe I'm missing something here.
jrsmith416: I don't think you're missing anything. I read through all the stuff like 8 times and I am freaking out a little bit. Surely they can't wait until they've finished scoring the first window to set the passing score. That would be inhumane... oh wait, they don't care. =( I also would like some kind of positive confirmation that 75 is the number to get in the first window!!!
I honestly don't know how they could increase the passing score to 80. I just took FAR and the new sims are pretty hard and they're weighted more. Therefore, the test is much more difficult than when mc had higher weight.
I don't see them decreasing the scores....but I could be wrong. It just wouldn't make sense...to me anyway.
my guess is they aren't sure how to grade it yet...which makes sense.
anyone who's taken a new 2011 exam may have noticed that the exam feels harder. the TBS were harder than the simulations and are also now weighted more. When you got your score, it was never a raw score of 75--it was some crazy math in compared to people who already took it. Therefore, my predicition is that they still pass about 45-50% of the people who took the exam, but they need to figure out what that is and are going to wait an entire test window to figure out who the top 45-50% of people were and what their scores look like.
I just tried to go into the exam hoping to score in the top third of people (if that makes sense).
I'd really like to know what people think of the new 2011 test. Please post guys as soon as you take it and let us know what you think..THANKS!
Jeff I've been sitting and stewing in the middle of busy season over this question (maybe you can help)??
Will the AICPA release the new (if any) passing score BEFORE they release the grades for the first testing window? I'm waiting on my last part and want to be sure I know what I'm looking at when I get my score.
*TIA*
I hope they don't change the scores. If they do, I will have to change my username. : )
Greaterthan(TBD)?
Something makes me think this forum is going to be more dead than it's ever been for the next month and a half.
Then we're all going to freak out.
Anyone who pass all 4 parts not get a congratulatory letter? Im in ny and still haven't gotten one
Ok- they're changing the passing score because they don't know how to grade it yet- I get that. But I REALLY hope they don't increase the passing rate to 80 or something. Down to 70 would be awesome!
Who knows- I guess all our questions will be answered at the end of window #1
No offense, but I don't really understand the anxiety over the passing score. It's just a number. The reality is that the examiners are going to want a certain percentage of testers to pass. Well, technically, they are going to come up with a number they think represents the score required for the "protection of the public" or some fancy explanation like that. But in reality, they just want about 45-50% of the test takers to pass. You can call that number whatever you like - it doesn't matter - the number is just for bragging rights - past and present. I think the ideal system would simply be a pass/fail grading system. Do people really talk about what scores they get on the CPA exam? A CPA is a CPA, an attorney is an attorney, and an MD is an MD. Your reputation is built by your actions - not some silly score on a standardized test.
@bfarbowitz I am in CA and just got my congratulatory letter from CBA yesterday.
That's good news
@ 74really
The test is just the same as it was before in my opinion (although I have never taken this section).
I didn't see too much change either. (it was my first time to take AUD too though)
Only the simulation changed from 2 testlets to 1 testlet containing 7 tabs.
As somebody else saying, it took a little while to switch tabs, which kinda scared me a little bit.
I didn't really study for international standards but those questions were something you can answer with educated guess and common knowledge.
Please be careful with exam disclosure. You can't say "I had ___ number of IFRS questions" or whatever.
It's an easy mistake to make.
I really hope the third times the charm. This is my third time taking AUD and I missed it by 1pt my last go around.
I took Auditing today and i'm keeping my fingers crossed. Please lord let me done with this exam! I don't know how to judge the difficulty of the exam since this was my third time taking Auditing. It's hard to tell if the questions are either difficult of not. Certain topics seem to be tested more than others. Now is the waiting game...which is the hardest part.
jeff's prediction is that reg scores will be released on my birthday. womp!
Everything you need to know about the score release: http://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-scores-results-release/
If i missed something or left out some info you would find helpful, please let me know!
Jeff
Do you think BEC will be last because of the written communications added? Or since it doesn't have TBS, maybe it will continue to be first??
Already obsessing...
I honestly don't see how they could change the iconic "75"; it'll just be an adjustment to how they arrive at the score. There are too many people who are mid-exam for it to change now.
That said, I retook AUD a couple of days ago and it seemed somewhat harder. A lot of it was similar to my first go at it in November, but the new weighting on the TBS will be key for people who are borderline.
Took BEC 2/19/2011... Anxious on my results... Hopefully will mean that I have only one more exam to take!
Anyone else having problems scheduling exams for next window? i see that there open days by the search for seat availability option on Prometric but none available when i try to schedule.
What are you scheduling? By the looks of your scores and dates on your exams, you have taken all of them.
i am scheduled to take AUD on sunday - 2/11 - feb 2011 but looking to reschedule
oh. well you should be able to reschedule then.
@mago20: The only reason I can think of is that your NTS is expiring before the next window and hence you can see them as available but are not able to schedule for the exam!
Wow i did not realize my NTS is expiring in the middle of April, Thnx for reminding me to look! but i cant even get to the part of putting in my nts number through the search for seat availability section.
You can call Prometric and schedule your exam. I've had trouble with the site a couple of times and always found it easier to talk to people at Prometric directly!
I guess i'll have to do it that way, Thnx!
NO WORRIES ABOUT THE EXAM SCORE CHANGE! IT IS STAYING AT 75! HOWEVER, WHO KNOWS IF THE FORMULA TO ARRIVE AT THE 75 CHANGES. SEE LINK BELOW!

Is it capslock day already? I'm so glad I didn't miss it.
YAY!
Thanks Mariya! That was an interesting read.
Look for ALL scores to be released on 3/17/2011.
