Someone said this to me this and I know he was kind of very surprised. Does that mean it’s rare for accountants to drive sports/muscle cars? LOL Any thoughts or personal experiences?

I'd say stereotypically, accountants are conservative. Conservative with money, wardrobe, lifestyle… I've met some cheap/conservative/frugal accountants. I worked with a guy (back when I was an auditor) who talked the whole day about how much he spent on a fish sandwich from the food truck… No one cares! $3.50… Do you think that was a good deal? It was a fish sandwich… What is the average price of a fish sandwich?

I'd say I probably fit the mold as well… I drive a Saturn VUE. Lol…

I think I know few people who are like that, the one you just told us about. I actually do my math before making any financial decision (like almost every accountant) but I also weigh in how much happiness would I get from getting something. I think most of the people leave this thing out when they do cost-benefit analysis.

Half of my department drives a sports/muscle car (myself included). I guess we must be extremely rare. We really aren't stereotypical accountants – as a group, we spend a lot of money on cars and guns and food, lol.

    I drive a Prius 🙂 seriously.

I think most accountants are cheap asses, myself included. Unless it is something I really want, then I'll overpay.

Lots of luxury and exotic sports cars in our garage reserved spots. Plus, many of us here have a passion for fine watches too….as I'm typing my PAM 312 is looking back at me.

Different strokes for different folks, and I personally don't care how someone else spends their money – just as long as the economy trudges along because of it. Spend away!

When I make Manager, HOPEFULLY before I'm 30. I'm buying an Audi. Even though I love my Honda Civic. I don't think I'm conservative too much, I buy rounds when I go to the bar.

I'm in the family mobile now, I joke with my wife that by the time I'm comfortable shelling out the cash for a muscle/sports car it will look like a midlife crisis.

Red 2011 Mustang GT here. I do try to save as much as I can but I absolutely had to have that car. I really love it – much better than a Shelby or a Roush.

I imagine an accountant driving the 3 class BMW or Audi A3/A4. Some entry level luxury vehicle. Until of course they become manager and can afford something nicer.

This topic reminds me of that Saturday Night Live sketch where Will Ferrell plays an accountant having dinner with his family. At one point he says something like “I'm a manager in charge of people! I drive a Dodge Stratus! I drive a Dodge Stratus!”

I drive a Civic Si. Just a fun little car to mess around. It's a shame that so many manufacturers have gotten rid of manual transmissions. They are so much fun!

Haha I love that Will Ferrell skit! I almost bought a Dodge Stratus years and years ago when I was a broke college student that needed a car – that skit was actually the reason I bailed on the idea. I never would have heard the end of it!

I'm with mdcpa89 though – happiness is definitely a factor when I make a purchase. I bought a 2012 Nissan a few years ago because I needed a new car, but it wasn't what I wanted and I definitely settled. Less than 2 years later I traded it in for a 2014 of the same model. I joke that I found something younger and prettier, but in reality it was much closer to what I was originally looking for. Stupid financial decision for sure, but I figured that if I was going to be throwing money at a virtual money pit, I may as well enjoy said money pit! 🙂
