Anyone have first-hand experience with bringing in Checkpoint research to a private company as tool for tax and accounting research?

I have many years of experience using the application as a research tool in public accounting. However, I have recently taken a step into private accounting in a leadership position at a startup company. Just wondering if anyone might have valuable feedback with lessons learned in this process? How many licenses did you end up needing? Which specific product offerings from Thomson Reuters have you found most helpful?

We use Checkpoint as a common research tool. It would really depend on how much the company wants to spend to the amount of information you get and how many licenses you need. My current company has a package that isn't as robust as I would like and many times I have to go outside to research IFRS issues as they didn't include that in their package. If you will be the only one using the research tool, one license would be sufficient. But if you want multiple people access in order to spread the research to others, several licenses would be needed.

    are you in corporate tax?

the current firm (public accounting) i work at, I use checkpoint multiple times a week. it is truly an invaluable tool for tax research! we don't do audit but do subscribe to their minimal compilation/review package. it comes with sample report wordings, engagement letters, client communication/newsletters, etc etc. i am the only one who really uses it as the partners just usually get a research memo for me. we have one license and i think its around $2000. best money spent ever.

now both the corporate tax departments i worked at prior to public accounting had RIA Checkpoint, so i pretty much took it as a standard thing in the tax world. cannot comment on their accounting research capability, but highly highly recommend it for tax.

think of it from a cost benefit thing $2000 for quickly finding multiple tax answers you might need throughout the year. is it worth it? how much research do you do in your current role?
