Hello all! I know you have to pass all 4 sections of the exam in 18 months to retain credit for them. My questions is: After passing, is there a time limit to obtain the necessary requirements for the education/experience components?Or once you pass you keep your credit forever and you're just not licensed until you meet the other 2 requirements?

hi CPAbound - I think it depends on your state first of all. (I am in MA). Don't quote me...but for some reason 3 and 10 years are popping into my mind. Like 3 years to finish your schooling and 10 years to get your audit hours or vice versa.
If you aren't in the audit department and won't ever get your audit hours, you can always apply for a non-reporting license. A lot of people in tax do that. (you just can't sign any financial statements I believe).

As far as California is concerned, there is no time limit. As soon as you passed the 4 sections of the exams they will issue your certificate which you can keep forever. However, if you applied to get a license you have to submit the requirements ( pass the ethics exam, work experience etc.) within 2 years of filing the application or they will forfeit the fees that you paid to them and you need to re-apply again. It all depends on your state,so you need to call them to clarify the issue. Good luck!

I beg to differ on the California Rule,
California has on 1 stream policy, ie in order to get a certificate you have to complete the ethics and general experience requirements within 2 years of submitting an application.
At least this is the answer that i got from the licensing dept.
I've passed all 4 and i got a letter congratulating me, but not a certificate.
they said that in order to use CPA after my name, i have to fulfill the other requirements.

Need some advice - I've been a employed for the past few years with a company. Responsibilities include preparation of all financial statements and responsible for all accounting functions for the company. I do not report to a CPA, but to the owner of the company. I have recently passed final section of the exam and the ethics test. My state requires you to obtain signature for your experience from a CPA that is aware/familiar with your work. Our audit firm has stated they do not sign off on these affidavits. Does anyone have any advice on what path I should take. I do not want to leave my position as I do enjoy the work. But I would like to have the recognition of CPA for all the hard work I have put in.
