I just read a blog that a guy wrote. He said he studied about 2 hours per day....enough to get through one chapter. Those were his exact words. Am I the only one that thinks that's ridiculous? It takes me like 5 days to complete a chapter. What about everybody else? I feel like I am going too slow.

offlineMemberIt does sound a little too good to be true unless he's talking mini-chapters. With working full-time it definitely takes more than a couple days to review a chapter and do multiple choice questions to make sure I fully understand. I never thought I could use my weekends so efficiently before studying for CPA..People have different pace and it doesn't matter how fast you go as long as we get there! =) Let's keep it up!

offlineMemberThat does seem a little odd...Perhaps he's someone that can retain information that quickly - I know I'm definitely not. It takes me 4 hours to cover the Becker lectures alone...that's not even including doing the questions and reviewing flashcards!
I'd say keep your head up and take as much time as you need to understand the material and be able to apply it.

Has he passed any sections yet? Is he a recent grad? Is he a speed reader? Does he have pretty much total recall? I am with you - it takes me about 6 - hours t olisten to a chapter and take notes. Ihave to re-read the chapters. Go at your own speed - it is about crossing the finish line not the number of hours it took to get there!

offlineMemberUm it takes me much longer than that. I aim for a chapter a week that's getting in about 2-3 hours each weeknight and then 4+ hours Saturday & Sunday. I go through all the lectures, MCQs and SIMS. The last time I took an accounting course was in 2004 so it's definitely taking me a lil bit longer.

offlineMemberI did 1 chapter per day when I was studying BEC because time was a big issue. But it definitely took about 12 hours and that's just reading and required homework, no lecture watching. I say if you study full time you can do 1 chapter in 2 days but not 2 hours, no way. Unless he's some super genius...

offlineMemberShew, I'm with you guys. Thanks for all the replies, because sometimes I feel like I'm so slow and stupid. I have to read slow and do the MCQ's slow to retain all the information. Another big problem I have is by the time I get to chapter 9 (Becker), I have forgotten the chapter 1 stuff. haha. It's so discouraging sometimes.

A couple of folks in my Becker classes were finishing up their last semester of college. They were passing with almost no study time at all since the material was all fresh to them. I imagine 2 hours for a chapter would be doable on that basis. For the rest of us in reality it won't work. At the end of the day you have to study enough for you to get to the 75 finish line.

offlineMemberAsk people who've passed the exam and most will tell you they studied a lot.
With very few exceptions, it's not possible to pass these exams without a lot of quality study time.
The stories I hear about someone studying 40 hours for FAR and passing means either the story is a lie or exaggerated or the person is extremely smart and can retain information better than 99.9% of the population. Either way, don't count on passing without a lot of quality study time. Chances are you aren't an exception.

offlineMemberHe obviously isn't watching the lectures within 2 hours or fully reading the chapters AND doing the MCQ.. but everyone studies differently, do what works for you! It takes me about a FULL day to get through FAR chapters. But the other sections, BEC & Reg took me about 2 days to get through an entire chapter..

offlineMemberHahaha> The same happens to me. It takes forever to study one Wiley chapter. But the time I am done, I am discouraged... hahahha. I am doing better with Glem though (maybe 2 Gleim Modules a week), just reading. But seriously, in a month I am 2,000 questions (Gleim) worked, which is 1/4 of the material, and I still am around maybe 70 (grade) of this sections. And not to mention, I also forget the chapter if i don't read it for a week. :))) BUt, the more I read, the better it is. And I don't want to erase the history on the MQC Gleim software...I want to be able to see how many questions will bring me to a decent grade. :)))

offlineMemberMost people need much more time to cover a chapter. Remember, it's not a race. You need to be sure you understand the information and not just put the time in. In fact, I didn't track my time after my first exam. I found it made me more stressed and I decided I would cover a chapter thoroughly and understand it before moving on. I listened to the lectures, then took my notes as I read the chapter, then completed MCQs.
Remember to take progress tests to help you retain the info. you have learned in earlier chapters. Also, I found it helpful to review my notes on previous chapters every couple days to keep things fresh. If you have the flashcards they are also helpful to keep the info fresh. GL!

offlineMemberI'd wonder what his definition of a "chapter" is.... it really depends on what software he's using. Some review programs will break a Becker chapter down into about 5 parts. In that case, I could 2 hours being completely adequate :)
FYI It takes me about 9 hours per chapter in Becker...4 hours of lecture watching, 5 hours of MCQ's OR flashcards (flashcards for Audit)
