Only 15 minutes for each BEC written question?

I just started studying for BEC this week. The Becker book recommends candidates allocate 15 minutes for each written question. Is this enough? I just practiced my first written question and I could BARELY crank it out in 15 minutes with no time left to proofread.

How much time do you all allocate for the written questions? Based on my time management on other exams, I am thinking more like 1 hour 45 minutes for the 72 MCQ and 1 hour 15 minutes for the three written questions. Thoughts?

I think I had 1 hour for writing… I was editing down to the last minute. Definitely need 1 hour in my opinion!

    BEC - PASS (79)
    AUD - PASS (63, 71, 74, 74, 83)
    REG - PASS (88)
    FAR - PASS (58, 89)

Same as s2sylvir. I had about an hour left and remember rushing through the sims during my exam. I hardly had 20 mins for each and it was just enough. You may not be able to afford more time to the sims, because if you get a lot of calculations in your MCQ testlets, you will need time there. So, 2hrs+1 hr is a fair allocation in my opinion.

I definitely think you should allocate 1 hour 15min to WC. I recently took BEC and I thought by allocating 2 hours to MC and 1 hr to WC, I would be fine but I ended up running out of time. You need time to reread what you wrote and check to see if it flows smoothly. WC should not be taken lightly especially if you are not the best writer (like me). Definitely watch the clock. Goodluck.

    THANKS TO GOD

I had 47 minutes to do my WC, and it was just *barely* enough time for me to do all of them and be reasonable happy with them. I went back and forth between them, filling each one out a little bit more, rather than completing them one at a time and running out of time to do an adequate amount on the last one. It was a pretty successful strategy, but writing is something I'm comfortable with.

If you are iffier on writing, definitely give yourself more time than I did. But it is only worth 15%.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

    Think about it this way:

    3 – 15 minute writings = 45 minutes.

Total exam time = 180 minutes.

    _________

25% of your time assigned to writings.

Would you want to dedicate more than 25% of your time to something that counts for 15% of your grade?

Okay, good to know. Sounds like I should aim to have around an hour for the writing.

@Bobcat87 – I'm not sure that logic holds. It all depends on how well you use the time available to you and how much time you really need to complete the work.

I would think that extra time is better spent on basic editing and proofing rather than agonizing over a few MCQ I'm unsure of.

BEC was the only test that I used the entire time for, and I started the simulations with just over an hour left. I finished every other exam with about an hour and a half left.

    REG - 90 (08/2014) - Study Time = 6 days
    FAR - 89 (10/2014) - Study Time = 9 days
    BEC - 83 (11/2014) - Study Time = 4 days
    AUD - 89 (01/2015) - Study Time = 2 days

You also don't want to rush through the MCQs, since those are 85% of your score and the writing part is only worth 15%.

Now that I've practiced more BEC MCQ I understand what y'all are saying.

I've always finished exams with plenty of time left over. But these BEC questions are so calculation heavy and simply more time-consuming compared to the other sections. I'll aim for 45 min to 1 hr for the writing.

Did any of you use Becker to review how to do WC? All these sound like very long times to be working on WCs in my opinion.

    AUD - July 2014 - 76

Used Becker online. Who needs a text when you can burn your eyes out staring at the screen for months on end?

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you're hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

you need an hour, i was really close on time. there's a good chance you'll get at least 1 question where you don't know enough to truly answer but can BS. the thing is, you lose points if you give blatantly wrong information. Structure matters too. In theory if you're doing well, your testlets get harder. There's a good chance you'll get hung up somewhere in there and end up working on a few MC for longer than planned.

How long were your WC on average? I've heard the basic 3 paragraph, 5 sentence each structure is what you should shoot for. Anything more is too much, from what I've heard.

That's what I figured…this thread is taking the written portion to a whole new level. From my understanding, less is more. Along with grammar, spelling, and buzz words.
