Is it true that people will choose Audit because there are usually more positions available and they believe that will create a better chance of them landing a job? Or are there equal positions available?

    AUD - 82
    REG - 78
    BEC - 78
    FAR - 76

Exit opportunities are greater and more diverse when you are in audit than if you are in tax, yes.

Notice that I did not say “better” because that depends on your personal preferences.

I guess what I meant to ask is are there more opportunities when trying to enter into public accounting in audit vs tax? will I have a better chance of finding in a position in audit vs tax when trying to get a job at a top 10 firm?

    REG - 78

    FAR - 76

At my firm, we do tend to have more openings in the Audit department then Tax. The small business accounting department is currently the fastest growing. I was hired in 2013 and we have added 9 positions in that time.

    BEC - 8/8/16
    REG - 66, 77
    AUD - 81
    FAR - 9/8/16

Ahh, gotcha. Yaha, in that case audit will always have more open positions.
