Opinions on my chances at getting a first round interview with Big 4?

    Hello Everyone.

I’ve been told that high GPA, I.E 3.8, is typically what would get you an interview during the recruiting process.

I’m 25. I am a Full Time student at Washington State University. My GPA is about 3.5. I work full time (40-50 hours a week) in Accounts Payable while taking 4 classes. I’m not in BAP, but I try and to community service during my weekends in the summer. Between work and school, I am unable to find time to be apart of BAP. I won’t be applying until Fall of 2016, and I intend on attending as many networking events as I can in Spring 2016.

Any opinions on my chances of at least getting an interview? Any thought or tips on getting recruited with the Big 4?

Thank You, I appreciate the help.

    Garrett

    Hey Garrett,

I work at PwC Seattle and I think you should for sure get at least a first round interview. 3.5 GPA while working 40-50 hours looks REALLY good. My advice to you would be to try to network as much as possible. I know you said you didn't have time for BAP meetings, but maybe just try to go to the meetings when Big4 are hosting.

    Hi Jason!

I appreciate the feedback. I certainly will attend as much as the meetings as possible. I may not have as much time, but I will make time for important events. How do you like PwC Seattle? I'm also trying to decide which of the Big 4 I want to aim for specifically, although I would be happy in any of them.

I interned at Big 4 in Boston last year and will be starting full-time this fall after I graduate with my Master's. I think the firms are all very similar in terms of compensation, benefits, etc. They all have great and intelligent people. I think you need to decide what types of clients you want to work on? First off- tax or audit. I will be going into assurance, and will be working in utilities/retail clients. Within assurance in Boston alone there are asset management teams, insurance, tech, bio-med, etc.. etc. Guess that could help you narrow down what you want to apply for, but I think otherwise it is personal preference. I say interview with them all and see which one you liked best. And don't rule out the other big guys (Grant Thorton, BDO, McGlaudrey). They are all great companies and will get you the experience you are looking for.
