   I have been looking for addtional certifications to pursue to beef up the resume. I thought that getting certified in excel 2010 would be a good idea. While browsing the microsoft website, you can become excel certified, but also get certified in word and other products.

   The question I have is, do you all think this type of certification would hold much weight? Or do you think as long as you know enough to be dangerous in excel is sufficient? Ultimately, I'm looking to seperate myself in any way on the resume.

   Also, a recruiter told me that many of the companies are now looking for Great Plains experience. Anybody else see that experience as a bonus?

   I guess you'd have to weigh the benefits vs the cost (how much time are you willing to put into it, etc). I have a couple Microsoft certifications, and they've never been discussed in any job interviews. I personally don't they are that valuable. In my opinion, an employer would rather see "5 years experience in using excel, including pivot tables and macros" than "excel certified".

   I think your time and money would be better spent in accounting software training and/or certification like you mentioned, even Quickbooks cert would look good on the resume.

   While. I was interviewing a lot of the companies wanted SAP or something. I looked into getting a cert for that and it cost like 5 k...accountants are expected to be Excel experts, I think a cert in Excel is a waste. If you have a cpa already a certified excel cert won't really help. The software really depends on the industry you want to be in also. Do some research.

   I agree with sacred theory, I think if you want to get additional certifications then I would go for quickbooks or Peachtree certifications. The company I work for uses Peachtree and the closest certified consultant is another state. Luckily I've been using it for about 11 years so I know quite a bit and am planning on getting the certification.
