I am trying to make a strong case for my admin to get a hefty raise. She is single handedly the lifeblood of our office. I’m trying to go the route of a promotion instead of just asking for a 15% raise which is sure to be shot down.

She enters ALL the orders ~5m in revenue with SUPERB accuracy and detail. She prepares the invoicing for my review, also with flawless accuracy. She enters all of the domestic A/P, prepares weekly sales and backlog reports that are distributed to 3 international offices, prepares the commission statements, assists the guys downstairs with the receiving into quickbooks, and does the ordering for inventory and office supplies.

Her current title is office assistant and she does not have a degree. They pay her $14/hr and if she ever moved on we couldn’t find someone to do her job unless they had substantial experience and wanted much more than that. I’m trying to find similar job titles with similar duties so I can make a clear case that she is underpaid.

Anybody work for a small co and have a similar type position?

I don't have advice but I think it's wonderful that you are looking out for her. I'm sure once she gets her raise/promotion she will be very thankful.

    That is great of you!

I know first hand how hard it is to get assistants the pay that they deserve. I'm not sure what your title is, but could she be bumped up to Accounting Assistant instead of Office Assistant. That would imply that she has more knowledge and is working more in the accounting side rather than the admin side of it.

We did this with an Admin Asst that worked for me and was just beginning a degree in accounting. She had no classes, but had some prior experience with minimal bookkeeping. She took on accounting tasks and we made goals for her to take on more assignments and to continue her education. This allowed us to promote her and give her a raise.

Also, does her work free you up more to allow you to take on more tasks? You could definitely argue that her contributions can be felt up the chain of command.

Thank you. My title is finance, admin and office manager. I'd gladly part with the office manager part of my title but I've only been there a month so I don't want it to look like I'm passing stuff off already. The president asked me to make a case to our CFO in the UK and this is the route I'm choosing. I'm finding order entry specialist jobs nearby with about the pay I'm asking for, so I may try that route.
