One of mine is to be able to do one pull up (not a chin up – a real [the hard kind] pull up) before my 30th birthday, which is approaching in just over 2 months. I think I could do 2-3 in elementary school. (I’m open to advice, besides the obviouses of losing extra weight and developing seriously epic lat muscles)
What are some of y’alls goals besides the 3 letters?
REG - 65, 70, 80!
BEC - 35, 62, 79!
AUD - 73, 75!
FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

I don't understand… Your saying things besides work and the CPA exist?
August 23, 2013 at 7:30 pm #434629peetreeMemberdon't go to the lat pull down machine or the assisted pull up machine.
Go straight to the bar and try to pull yourself up. Yes you will feel embarrassed at first, but it does so much more work for your back then doing sets of 12 on the pulldown machine.
I used to not be able to do any traditional pull ups! Then I sucked it up and started real slow just trying to get myself above that bar. Definitely started slow (probably only getting up to the bar twice) and failing. I kept at it though and can now do 12-15 before I get tired.
Definitely an attainable goal just don't get discouraged at first. It will happen! (and it doesn't take a whole lot of studying!)

Passed all exams on first try! Good luck to everyone!August 23, 2013 at 11:00 pm #434631JferjameyParticipantI signed up for a half marathon and a 10 mile race this fall. I ran a half marathon a few years ago, but now I'm a FT grad student, CPA candidate, and have a 20-month old toddler. I guess the real goal is to come out of it all with a little sanity left.

August 23, 2013 at 11:37 pm #434632AnonymousInactiveI bought a new 911 last October and I've got just over 1,500 miles on it. I am intent on doing some serious auto-cross and becoming a competent racer as soon as all this CPA craziness gets over with.
August 24, 2013 at 5:15 am #434633HustlinHustlinMemberBuy a car! (Been putting off this treat since I started studying two years ago now!)
Get back into doing half-marathons – right now I struggle to move past 4 miles
Get a job that doesn't own my soul (oh, public accounting…)
Start practicing yoga and be able to touch my fingertips to the ground without having to bend my knees
Lose the 5-10 pounds I've put on due to this process and my job
I also have silly little side goals I've been meaning to do. I want to start some DIY projects around the house, find some damn hobbies, and become a morning person.
More than anything, I just want to start LIVING. I hate that I've been missing out on so much since I've been studying.
I feel like this is the time to live my life to the fullest and I'm letting my career take it over. I don't have many friends with real careers so it is hard when they have so much free time, but I know it is rewarding that I have the money and not the time right now….

Still need 30 more credits, in basket weaving (gotta love new CA requirements)August 24, 2013 at 11:37 am #434634neika822Participant@Hustlin – I'd also like to get back into yoga. I took it for about a year and loved it, but I've stopped since last spring so that I can study.
After this, I plan to slowly get my MBA. My job will reimburse for about 1 class a semester, so I figure I might as well do it!
I'd like to keep up running/working out everyday. And like I said, get back into yoga and maybe other workouts. I've taken barre before and that kicked my a$$!
I'd also like to learn a new language. I'm not sure what (my mom would love if I learned Polish, but that probably won't happen lol).
I guess just having a life outside studying! I'd love to take sailing lessons as well. Although that will have to wait until next summer now.

August 24, 2013 at 2:47 pm #434635JferjameyParticipant@Hustlin – I can't wait to stop going through the motions and start living again too! I've spent most of my twenties in school. In May, I'll have an MBA, CPA, and hopefully a normal job! I can't wait to enjoy the evenings and weekends and be able to go on vacations without feeling guilty!

August 24, 2013 at 9:10 pm #434636LSNYCMemberI like this thread, helping me remember there will be a life after this exam!
I would also like to learn another language, I am thinking Spanish first then maybe something else after that?
I also would like to take the CMA exam too but I think I would wait a bit at least a few months before i just in to another study experience.
I would also like to start working out again, barre class, Pilates, yoga ect.
I would like to travel in the US and internationally

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!
August 24, 2013 at 9:20 pm #434637Gerg, CPAParticipantcant really think of anything besides the CPA exam. I would like to done with it before my 1st child is born (due in January). That's pretty much it.
obviously i need to start working out more, but that should be easier once I am in my house in October.
Ideally one day I'd like a job that doesnt revolve around the tax busy season(s), so i can actually see my children for those 5-6 months out of the year.
But overall life is going pretty well other than the CPA.

CPA license pending πAugust 26, 2013 at 7:59 pm #434641KelzMSMemberBeat the star world in New Super Mario Brothers! It is really frustrating me.
Oh but for the more important things, get back into Insanity so I can lose the extra 5-10 pounds I have gained since studying for the CPA exam. I would also like to be able to do a pull up as well nbad! Back when I was doing P90X I eventually got to where I could do one but since I have stopped using weights I have lost that ability. π I'm not big or anything, I'm an average size person but I am just weak. The way I eventually got to be able to do a pull up was to use a chair and bring myself to the top of the bar and then lower myself without the chair as slowly as I could. It really helped and that is what I will do again once I pass this exam!

I'd also LOVE to develop a running program of some sort. My roommate is a marathon runner, and it's inspiring. I'd really like to start building up to, if not a marathon, something substantial.
It's helping me a lot to remember that I've got plans to do things that I *want* to do with my time after I'm done with the exam. It's so depressing sometimes because it can I feel like I'm never going to get out of this studying cycle, but every day I'm closer to being a CPA who has a life. I can't WAIT! π
