I don't watch much tv anymore. The first 20 years of my life, it was probably my default activity. I no longer watch tv out of boredom, but there are about a half dozen shows that I never miss.
1 – Mad Men – I wasn't a huge fan of the premiere last week, but it has kept its quality high the entire run of the series. Some of my favorite episodes of the series are from the last couple seasons, in fact.
2 – True Detective – A buddy cop drama in which the buddies hate each other. I've never watched one of these murder mystery type series that was so character-driven that, even when the plot payoff at the end was a bit of a letdown, you didn't care because the writing and acting was so strong. Expect Matthew M. to win a lot of awards for this.
3 – Orange is the New Black – Great ensemble cast. I really like its “Season 1 of Lost”-like structure…how a different character is focused on every episode….how the story interweaves each's prison/free lives. The Sophia-based episode might have been my favorite episode of television last year.
Honorable mention: Fargo. Just one episode in, but I am completely on board. Go to FX.com and watch it NOW!
