    Hi everyone!

I’m a long time lurker here and finally decided to post. I am confused by the work experience requirement. My actual/official title is Accounts Payable Clerk. I have about 30 companies that I do AP stuff for. I do some bank reconciliations and have begun to learn how to do financials.

I have been in this position for a year and am hoping to move up once reviews take place.

Is AP enough for the one year of work experience or must it be more related to financial statements,, taxes etc. I have looked up the requirements and the categories are very broad. Is AP considered “accounting” or is it too entry level? Also, I do not work directly under the CPA in the firm. She is the supervisor of the tax department and I am in a bookkeeping department. Would I have to move to her group for any of my work experience to count?

I am just taking my first exam next Monday. So I’m at the very beginning stages of this journey. I just want to do all that I can to prepare myself to be ready to be licensed once the time comes and I pass all 4 parts.

I can't attest for whether your AP work would count toward the experience requirement, but I can for sure say that the CPA signing off on your experience does not have to be your supervisors. I called the PA State Board regarding who was eligible to sign off on my experience, and I was told it could be anyone on the same payroll.

    Passed all sections.
