Passed REG…hard time starting FAR

So I passed REG. I left the test feeling completely defeated and was shocked when I saw my score. There was two weeks between taking my test and getting my score. My original plan was to take a week off and start FAR the following week, Because I thought that I would need to retake REG though, I did not start FAR. Now I have not studied in two weeks and I am having an extremely hard time getting started. I know it will completely consume me again and I am not ready for it. I also know that I have only 18 months to pass this thing and don’t want to waste time. I know I just need to suck it up and study but ugh….anyone else deal with this??

I'm in the same boat with a test date of Oct 3rd. I just surprisingly passed REG also, so I'm on to the last section(FAR). I thought that would put some wind in my sails, but after 3 weeks off…well, it feels nice not studying all the time. When is your test date for FAR?

It's always hard to get going. But trust me u got to start asap. Firts of all a lot of info on the sections overlap and u don't want to start forgetting stuff. Second, there would be nothing worse than losing credit for a section because u procrastinated. You've got to get some tests I n each window. Get this thing over with.

I didn't schedule yet but I was planning on the first week in October as well which I already feel like is going to be a short amount of time to cover the material for FAR. I just need to move on it….

I see so many people's signatures on here that had expired sections and I admire them for having the perseverance to retake after passing. As soon as I passed REG and knew my clock had started I decided that there's no way I could retake any sections after passing.

Your clock has started, better get on it. FAR ain't no joke.

I take a break after every test and I always have a hard time getting back into it, but I also feel I need it to rejuvenate and to become a member of my family again. You'll get back into it as you study more and more. The best news for you is you have an 18 month window that started with knocking out one of the more “difficult” exams. My window started with BEC, which has less material, and doesn't require as long of a study period (for me). You can do it. Just tell yourself when you are going to get started, make a study plan, and stick to it.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

I just applied for my NTS. I am going to try and schedule for October 6th. I am scared to death of FAR. It is so much material. @Mamabear being around the family again is nice. We scheduled vacation the week after I tested on purpose so I would not be studying while we were away and it was so nice.

I was going to try and get BEC in the last week in Nov then save AUD for Jan (busy season). DO you think that is enough time for BEC?

I also just found out I passed REG. I was moving to FAR with a 10/4 exam date regardless of the REG results. I did really good the week after my exam and went through chapter 1, MCQs & Sims, then as the results were approaching last week I lost motivation. What really helps me is writing out a plan. FAR is a lot of material, but 2 months is enough if you're disciplined. I made a plan for FAR after my REG test and tonight, since I fell off track last week, I spent a little bit tweaking my study plan. Giving myself realistic day-to-day goals really helps. Yesterday and tonight I reworked the MCQs & Sims and am starting chapter 2 tomorrow. Also, when I'm really not into studying I'll rewrite the ninja notes. Sometimes it gives me motivation, sometimes all I do that study session is rewrite the notes.

As for BEC, I think it's definitely achievable. I'm planning for AUD before Thanksgiving. I hate cost accounting and economics and love audit, so I don't think BEC would be achievable in that time frame for me personally, but everyone is different.

    You can do this!

I'm in the same boat but I don't know if I passed REG yet (shudder). I am just starting FAR, and I will be testing in early October, with AUD in mid November (which is probably not enough time), if everything goes according to plan, which is probably unlikely, but I am hoping for the best! Starting FAR after studying REG for so long is tough, but I know that the more I put it off the more I am going to regret it later.

To use a quote: “Do something today that your future self will thank you for.” Kind of cheesy but it makes its point.

@Austin, I like that quote! I also stole off here and wrote on a post-it on my computer: some people dream of success, others wake up and work hard for it.

Nothing is more true when it comes to these exams!

FAR is lot of material, but I've read where many folks didn't think that it was the hardest or trickiest exam. They basically just were commenting on the amount. I had taken FAR about 4 years ago, didn't find it too difficult…just a lot to remember. I made a 65 back then and honestly didn't try that hard (my current test scores will show that I am not a genius, just average…maybe)
