Perfectionism and getting stuck studying

Hey Everybody! I am in the process of studying for BEC (my second attempt) and I keep finding myself getting stuck in certain chapters and feel I am unable to go on to the next chapter until I score at least a 90% (what the review system suggests) on the MQCs and TF. I have read the book and am in the process of going through chapter by chapter to answer all the MCQs and TF. So this is where the trouble begins; I go through the MCQs, score lower because it may have been a while since I read the material, review the material I missed on the MCQs and take another set of MCQs. This next score is either slightly higher or lower than the first test I took. I then go back to the book and review the missed material, take another set of MCQs and the cycle goes on and on. I feel like I am wasting my time getting caught up on subjects that are not a major focus of the exam (even though in the back of my mind I am terrified they will show up on exam day ;P). I have read from the forums for BEC you really need to know Corp. Governance, COSO, IT, and cost accounting inside and out. I really do not want to have to take this exam again due to wasting time and being inefficient while studying. Can anybody provide any advice on how to get past this hang-up and what I really need to focus on? All suggestions are welcomed and appreciated, thanks!

I would always read a chapter and do the multiple choice right after. Then try to understand what I missed. Move onto the next chapter after that and do the same. Once I got through the whole book I would do it all over again focusing on my weaker areas. As long as you have enough time, you should be able to use the last week before your test to really focus on your weakest areas.

Set a schedule and stick to it. For example, BEC-1 for one week, BEC-2 for two weeks. That kind of forces you to move on….

Don't worry so much on your score a focus more on if you are grasping the concepts, the 90% recommendation is just a benchmark. I usually move on after hitting mid 70's and don't worry about getting a high score until I'm in the review phase.

The reason for that is what you said above, if you work on ch. 1 until you hit 90's your not going to touch that material again for a couple weeks. Expose yourself the first time through the material and don't worry about “perfecting” it until two weeks before your exam date.

    R - 90 2/27/2014
    F - 75 5/25/2014
    B - 83 8/28/2014
