Hi everyone, officially my first post to Another71! Like the title says, I have a phone interview with EY in the midwest region, and was wondering if anyone had any tips/recent experience? I did use the search bar, but couldn’t come up with anything recent. Thanks!

@_Nick_'s right. You definitely don't want to forget that. My freshman year of college, we had a guy in our dorm from California who called pop “soda” and we ostracized him for it.

    Hi Nocoast

I actually just went through the whole interview process with EY so here's what I can offer.

-I'm an experienced staff hire, so my questions could be different if you're a college hire

-why do you want to leave your current job?

    -why EY?

    -tell me about yourself

-tell me about your work experience

    -are you ok with traveling?

-what industries are you interested in?

    -when could you start?

    -salary, bonus, etc.

    -cpa exam plan

That's all I can remember at this point. If you have any questions about the office interview let me know.

@Dave how many years of experience do you have in the field that you applied for at EY? Also, if you could let us know what questions they asked you at the office interview and how your overall experience was at the office?

So I had 2 busy season tax internships and about 9 months of full time audit/tax experience. All of this was a 2 regional firms.

So the office interview was pretty basic. I was there for probably 1.5 hrs and spoke to a manager and a partner. It started as really an extension of the phone interview with the basic questions. The manager played college basketball in the same conference I played college football in so our conversation went that route and the partner use to live where I live and was tall too so that generated a lot of good conversation. It really seemed like they just wanted to see if I was someone they could actually stand to be around.

We honestly barely talked about accounting. I talked about my audit/tax mix and how I was looking to transition into full time audit and told them the 2 industries I was interested. Told them I was shooting to have my CPA done prior to my start and that I wanted to go all in on my career and that EY was the perfect place for it.

So just be ready to have an open conversation. Sneak in some stuff about your work ethic and experience where you can and just let the conversation guide itself.

I'm from the midwest and I HATE the word pop…it's soda!!

Anyway, seems like the interview process varies from office to office. I know the EY office in my town will have you do a case study and do a writing sample during the interview. It's pretty hardcore.

    Jilly,

Did they let you know before you went in for the interview if you were going to have a case study and the writing sample? Or was it a surprise when you arrived at the office?

I'm actually not sure…I never had to do it, since I have no desire to work at EY 🙂 I spend way too much time with EY people, however, and am well-versed in their practices! I'm pretty sure it's only the ITRA group that does this, not Assurance (which is what I assume most of the people on this forum would be interviewing for).

Dang…I talking with some ITRA people tomorrow and am not sure what to expect. My friend who referred me said his interview for entry level was a full day long, consisting of like four interviews, a case, writting assessment and lunch. However, I only have two interviews scheduled and have an online writing assessment.

All of my previous experience has been in IT and not in RA, so if they give me a case, I am pretty sure I will bomb that.

If you do get a case study, remember that it's not always about knowing the answer but about being able to think critically. Just relax and answer the best you can!

Do you mind if I ask what office (or region) you are interviewing at?

Wow, great feedback from everyone. I have been trying to spread the knowledge about pop, but its seems to be a hard sell! Seems to be pretty basic everywhere, which is what I figured. Good luck Abranaugh, I'm sure we will both do great. Thanks to everyone that responded, I will follow up after the interview for people who search this thread in the future.

Hi Everyone, Just an update, the phone interview went well. Conversation flowed very well for around 40 min. I did stumble on one question about something so simple, I just couldn't find the right words to explain something on my resume. So we ended the convo, and I was told I would hear back in the next two weeks if I was to come in for an office interview. As a huge surprise to me, I got the call today, and will be interviewing in office next week!
