Phone interview next week. Any advice?

I recently applied to an internship position at a local, regional firm since they didn’t require you to be a student and they emailed me two days ago and asked me to set up a time to do a phone interview. Now I’ve done some phone interviews before, but I’m always left shaking like a leaf due to nerves. Sometimes I almost stutter if a question catches me off-guard so I’d like to be better prepared this time.

Does anyone have any advice for me? I’d like to have an idea of what sorts of questions they might ask so I can think about it ahead of time and maybe have an idea of what I want to answer instead of getting tongue-tied like the one interview I had in March. Any advice would be appreciated.

being completely serious, do like a ton of pushups right before the interview. Exercise really releases some of those nerves.

This may sound odd at first, but when you speak on the phone, be sure to smile. Sure, the interviewer on the other end doesn't see you smile but it he/she can sense your enthusiasm and excitement. Simply put, imagine the interviewer is in front of you asking the questions— you would be smiling and being extremely attentive and engaged. Good luck!

I'm not sure if this would work for a phone interview but once I was told to ask for a few moments to gather my thoughts to answer questions if I needed to.

Thanks lancebvs I think I've heard that one before. I'll definitely try it though. EYNewHire I've never heard that one before, but I might try it depending on how I think the interview is going.
