Planning a Wedding and Studying while in Grad School!

    I don’t post frequently but I must say I really love this site! It’s so great seeing everyone being supportive of one another through the ups and downs that this exam can be. I just felt like posting to vent about my struggles. Just like everyone else I have trouble making myself study sometimes. It just gets so frustrating doing it over and over and over. On top of that, I’m trying to finish graduate school (1.5 months left, praise Jesus!!!!) AND plan my wedding that’s in two months. Sometimes I just feel so overwhelmed but I keep telling myself it’ll be worth it. My soon to be husband is very supportive and doesn’t really know what to do other than give me a hug and let me go on about my studying. Like everyone on here says, the people in our lives that aren’t taking it really just can’t grasp how hard it is. But I know you all understand. So thanks for letting me vent. Any suggestions on how to handle these stressful combinations are welcome, including experiences or just helpful advice! Thakns everyone!!

    Sup ReadytoGraduate!

    I was in a similar situation when I first started my CPA journey: wedding planning, studying, and working in public accounting…towards the tale end of my studying (FAR) I was moving across the country with a new job and moving into our first home!

    …that being said, I know a thing or two about juggling life while studying…

    Wedding planning advice:

    Outsource as many tasks as possible to trusted people (soon-to-be husband, mom, etc.) You can only do so much, so let other people who love you help you with things that, while at the moment may seem uber important, at the end of the day don't really matter (O.M.G….cousin so-and-so wants to invite her bff to the wedding but I never gave her a +1!!!)…true story

    Studying advice:

    Since you're betrothed and about to spend most of your non-school/work time with your spouse, use your CPA study time as “you” time. I know, I know it's hard to make that work in your head but try TRY because you're not going to have much more time by yourself post wedding day (which is mostly good). Idk what part of the world you live in but I took the time to study outside at the park when the weather was nice. I wore some comfortable lounge-around-the-city clothes, packed a substantial, healthy picnic bag, and loaded my zebra Jansport backpack full of my study material…I now look back reminiscently and fondly of those times…cherish them 🙂

    Hope this helps…congrats on the upcoming nuptials and may God richly bless your marriage 🙂

    @CPA4birthdaypresent

    thanks for all the advice!!! I'm doing what I can to get by 🙂

    So glad I only have REG left to study for (currently). My soon-to-be in-laws are being so so helpful. I'm so grateful for them! My fiancé is doing what he can, as well, but it's hard to delegate wedding details to a very manly-man hahaha. But other than that my doggy is keeping me sane. It sounds crazy but getting a dog at the beginning of this study “adventure” has been the best thing that ever happened to me! She keeps me happy with things get stressful! And I live in South Carolina, so it's starting to get extremely humid and hot here, but I think I'm going to venture to a Starbucks or a Panera for some outside the house study time. Thanks again for the advice! Congratulations on being done and surviving it all!!! 🙂

    I'm in a similar situation right now with studying and planning a wedding. My fiance also has been so supportive, but our life is so stressful as his parents and my parents are 2 hours apart. We are trying to figure out where to live right now with my parents as we look for a house. It's just all overwhelming. We did live up with his parents (long story) and we adopted stray cats and I miss them so much which makes studying harder, and we can't get them back until we get a house. Good luck hope you finish up in July! I still have to pass 3 more : (
