Was this a Becker final exam practice exam?

If it was, from the general consensus of people who have taken the Becker Final Exam prep, you should be all right. Becker questions for this final exam are, aparently, more difficult than the actual exam.

I took FAR last month, and I'm paitently awaiting my score. I was in a similar boat as you, one week to go not knowing what else to study. I started going back through the book and took notes on anything I felt weak on. Non-monetary transactions lacking commerical substance was an area which I felt weak. I also did several ‘practice tests' (100 question multiple choice testlets) using my software package. If anything, you've seen the questions a million times before and they keep the material fresh in your mind. You also gain confidence by getting 80s and 90s on those tests.

Bottom line though, keep your confidence high, 170 hours of prep puts you in a good position for passing this portion. Stay confident thoughout the test, it's not going to be easy and you will doubt your performance during the test, this is very normal. STAY CALM no matter what.

Thanks for the advice MacPass…Yes it is from Becker. Noncommercial substances are also a problem for me yet I got those questions right on the exam and parts that I really know I bombed… Totally nonsensical.

As for study hours I agree that its about quality… Ive put in totally over 180 hours of study and deducted 10 as i felt they weren't of best quality. I keep my hours logged in an Excel rounding my hours down i.e. 1hr 15 min = 1 hour, just to keep myself honest. I thank everyone for the tips. I love hearing the stories just like my own only to read more recent posts of the people actually passing.

Thanks for the advice once again.

Your results look just like mine. I took both Becker Final Exams for FAR and scored in the mid 60's overall both times. I spent about the same amount of time 175 hours studying and also logged my time in an excel spreadsheet. I am glad to say that at least in my case that both Becker Final Exam seemed to be more difficult than the actual exam. I am happy to say that I did pass with an 80. I have the belief that if you put in the time and effort the results will come. This has worked for me in FAR and AUD. I take BEC this Thursday and hope my study pays dividends a third time.

It sounds like you have put in the time and effort. I would think you will do fine. Good Luck!!!

    vishvesh,

I have heard a lot of people say that their actual FAR was much easier but this is not the case for me. My actual FAR, was unfortunately just as hard, if not harder. I did pass however with a score in the mid 80s so dont let failing Becker final scores deter you. People saying you generally score 10-15 points higher on the actual for FAR and this was the case for me as well and I will take it.

With that being said, sometimes its just the luck of the draw. I got a bunch of ridiculous teslets and passed, others have had easy testlets and passed. I felt comfortable on the sims tho and am very comfortable with my writing ability, this blog doesnt count, so the communication portion was a breeze. Basically you should do both final tests for Becker, but not to close to the actual test, because you want some time to review your weak points. In addition to Becker I bought the Gleim test prep CD for FAR which was loaded with 1700+ more questions to practice, so that helped.

Good luck and dont sweat it….easier said than done, i know

I used Becker also and I thought I failed FAR. I just got my score back and I got a 80. I do agree that it is a luck of the draw. I guessed on most of the questions and didn't even finish a few of the sims questions. My test was a lot harder than the review and I didn't do well during the sample tests either. Not sure how I passed. Luck maybe.

I just took my first CPA exam…FAR.

I have been studying for 8 weeks, 6 hours per day with the Becker home program.

I have done all HW and Supplemental questions at least twice, most supplemental 3 times.

I did each simulated exam and got a 66 on the first and a 61 on the second.

I was very worried, but read all the posts above and hoped that the actual test would, indeed, be easier than Becker.

My experience today was that the m/c questions were just like the becker simulated exam. I had 10-15 on each testlet marked for review and no time to go back and review them.

The simulations were strange. One of them had 3 or 4 totally separate problems in the same simulation! One tab was on stock options, another on troubled debt, etc. Totally different fact set for each tab!

I will be surprised if I pass this exam. I will say that I didn't see anything that was not covered in the Becker materials.

I remember this thread from months ago. The timing on the bump on it is great though. I took the Becker practice final #1 yesterday. Overall I estimate a 71 giving myself 5 points of credit for the written. I'll be doing practice final #2 once I finish checking the forums and email.

My experience with the other three sections has been that the Becker stuff is harder than what I've actually seen. Now that I'm on my last section, scoring lower on the practice exams doesn't freak me out like it did on my earlier sections.

Almom, I felt like complete crap coming out of AUD and REG and thought I had failed or barely passed each. I ended up with a 94 and 97 on those two. The test is adaptive and that adaptive-nature of it typically means if you feel like crap coming out of the exam you probably did well. If the norm holds true you probably felt alright about the first testlet, feel like the 2nd testlet took you into a dark alley and did unmentionables to you, and the 3rd was rough as well although not as bad as the 2nd (ie. normal testlet, hard testlet, hard testlet). That is what you want to feel.

It is good to hear you say the Becker stuff covered what you saw. I take the exam on Wednesday.

Good luck on Wednesday, Dale. One more and you are through. I've been following your posts and they have been a great help in my own preparation.

After Wednesday you'll be waiting (pulling your hair out) for the next six weeks, just like me. We could be done…

Thanks. I'm about as ready as I'm going to be for Wednesday. I did 2 points worse on the practice final exam #2. Talk about saving the worst for last. I've got 3 topics to review tonight. Tomorrow should be relaxing and non-study-ish, but I'm sure panic will start to set in by then.

Lets see… I got an 85 on the first Becker practice exam and an 86 on the second so I was probably a little too confident walking into the exam, and the exam humbled me. I took the exam april 1st and walked out of it feeling awful. Neither simulation had one related tab. I probably needed another 30 minutes to feel good about either one of the simulations. I was in the process of changing an answer when the time ran out. I was in such a panic about the time during the simulations I can't even remember now how the mc went….. I guess I will find out in 6 weeks. My advice is make sure that you allocate enough time to the simulations.
