Poor Simulation Performance On Reg-Possible To Pass?

So there’s probably a million of these threads and so I’m sorry for a likely ditto one. Today I took the regulation section of the CPA examination. The multiple choice didn’t seem all that bad, which may or not be a good sign, although I did notice they got slightly more difficult, not much though (possibly a good sign).

My first attempt at this exam, a while back, before i was dedicated to it, i scored a 69. I studied much harder this time, but i still feel I might have failed because of the da** simulations. Anyone here do really bad on the simulations and still pass? I don’t think i bombed them, but i probably got most of 1 simulation wrong and a bunch wrong on the other simulations. Are the sims like the MC in that they are weighted differently, so that you can pass, while not getting 70% correct?

B=84 This exam was such a b**** that I thought I failed-don't know how these things work
A=76 Slacker I am, I'll happily take it
    R=81 I LOVE taxes
F=80 I don't wanna get banned for an expletive I'm thinking with "yea" proceeding it

Well… I'll know the answer to that question in a few hours. I had a rough time on the REG SIMS as well.

    BEC - 02/21/15 - 82
    FAR - 05/29/15 - 82
    AUD - 07/09/15 - 93
    REG - 11/14/15 - 80

    All done!!!

I would say I bombed the SIMS on AUD (or at least it felt that way to me – I scored weaker on SIMS according to my results) and was able to pass. You have to perform extremely well on the MCQ to pass with sub-standard performance on the SIMS.

Almost always from my phone... please excuse my typos!

I tried to bank out the MCs ASAP this time, no checking my work to allow ample simulation time; it's a good thing I did. I spent the full 1.5 hours doing them. Also, had a hell of a time finding that research question. May god have mercy on my soul.

At least for REG, I think it's graded 60% MCQ/40% SIM. So, with 6 SIMS's and 1 not counting, each of the 5 SIMS are worth 8 points each. So yes, it's conceivable someone could bomb 2 of them and pass, or even 3 if they scored almost perfect on the MCQ.

    REG - 82 11/14/15
    AUD - 83 1/8/16
    FAR - 80 2/29/16

Are the sims all weighted the same though? The calculation heavy sims must count for more points though, since they're harder to guess on.

The research SIM was a slam dunk to me, but I already work in Tax and am more familiar with the IRC. I didn't spend that much time studying it, but I would get a 6 month access to the NASBA literature and do their practice exam, which contains either 1 or 2 research SIMs. If you do not have a tax background, I would also look up the IRC related to the topics you are studying for REG. For example, if you are reviewing depreciation, look up the IRC and see which code section(s) relate to that topic.

Brother, I finished the MC's in 1 hour. Spent 1:45 on the sims and I thought I failed them horribly.
Just found out I passed with an 84 and am officially done! There's hope!

Update: So, 2nd testlet noticeably harder but 3rd set way easy, so figured I kinda bombed the 2nd set. SIMS were monstrous, felt good about the research one only. I passed with a surprising 80

    BEC - 02/21/15 - 82
    FAR - 05/29/15 - 82
    AUD - 07/09/15 - 93
    REG - 11/14/15 - 80

Yes, this is probably the most “ditto” topic on this site! REG SIMs are brutal, and I truly believe they count more than FAR SIMs. I bombed FAR SIMs – i.e., fill in the blanks type of deal – and still passed. For REG, I couldn't pass until I nailed the SIMs (5x). But as @Jahazield mentioned, they thought they did horrible and passed the exam. Point is, don't torture yourself. Either you passed or you didn't, can't do much about it now…

    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    FAR - 76
    REG - 76
I want those initials next to my name!!!!

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    REG - 76

Now I need some experience!!! And some networking...
