Possible to Sit for FAR in 3.5 Weeks?

Hey guys, I have actually been studying for FAR since 12-21-12, but I have mainly been just watching the CPAexcel lectures and occasionally doing MCQ here and there. Just today, I have gotten serious about studying and restarted from the beginning for FAR. Since you can’t take the exam in March (and would have to wait until April), I am thinking of taking a shot at it on the last day of February. Is that doable?

It's doable for some, but for me, never. You'll need to put in long hours until then. Sure, you may have the time to study all day, morning until night, but chances are you won't do that. After an hour or so, your brain needs a break. I have always studied at snail pace, but consistently, every day. I do one lecture per week.

I tried to cram FAR in last window when I had a month to study. It just became impossible and I felt like I wasn't fully preparing myself. So I decided not to stray from my system I've had going on for almost a year. I feel as though I was much better prepared when I actually sat for the exam.

It's all about your learning style, but I don't advise it if you want to give yourself the best possible chance of passing the exam. 3.5 weeks of studying for FAR is a bit too close to ‘winging it' in my opinion. There's just way too much information in that section.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

I agree with Keely, FAR contains way too much information.

It would depend on how much time you are able to put in, and of course, your motivation. You are looking at a minimum of atleast 8 hours a day to allow yourself decent review time before the exam.

I would not recommend it, as I would rather take it in April after studying effectively through Feb/March.

Ha. I only wish my brain worked that way. I studied 6 months for FAR. No way for me. I do have a friend who passed all 4 exams in less than 6 months though. 🙂

Given that this is your first test, I would wait and take it in April. No sense in rushing since your 18 month window hasn't started yet. Especially given your taking FAR, wait. Nothing in itself is overly difficult in FAR. The challenge is just remembering the amount of information. 3.5 weeks is not enough time to do all of that. Start off on the right foot and give yourself the best chance of passing.

    BEC - 77 (lost credit), 4/5/13
    AUD - 83
    REG - 77
    FAR - 73, 74, 80! One more to go!!

Thanks for the advice guys. The insight actually helped a lot. And I'd just thought to share my situation: I recently graduated from college about a month ago and so I'm looking for a job (hehe, job market kinda sucks right now). So I would typically spend 1-2 hours job searching, with spending additional hours during days I have interviews. And so afterwards I have a crapload of free time. So time is not a factor, the real question is whether I will be productive with it. And I haven't decided yet but I'm probably going to end up delaying FAR until April.

    anything is possibe..

You have already gone through the lectures so dont waste this window . you have enough hours per day.. Let's say in worst case if u fail in this window, atleast you can still use that experiece in your next window . If i were you, i would not waste this window..

But you are the best judge!

I just passed FAR after studying for 3.5 weeks in a very similar situation to yours. As long as you stay committed by watching all the lectures, taking notes, going through the questions twice, and reviewing, it's definitely very possible. I would just go for it as long as you think you can put the time in. However, it is important to realize that everyone is different. I figured that that was the best approach for me because of what type of student I was in college and I was right. If the plan doesn't fit your learning style, then maybe you should give it a little longer.

Or consider devoting all that time to AUD and give yourself 2 chances (Q1/Q2) at passing Audit before the additional changes are tested in July.

I don't know it might be possible.. I crammed for a week while working so let's say 4 to 5 hours a day Mon-Fri and 5 hours on Saturday and got a 38 lol just because I couldn't stomach the idea of walking into the exam COMPLETELY unprepared just simply to get a feel for it. I got tested almost 40% on one or two subject areas I skipped studying – I am confident with that being studied I would've gotten at least a 55 – 60. So if you look at it all in terms of time, it is possible. I am gearing up to tackle FAR for real this time.
