Potential Layoff

I am likely facing a potential layoff within the next few weeks. I want to make sure I have my ducks in a row and am prepared for when I go.

I’ve already had my supervisor sign off on my experience (I already have over the requirement for my state) and I am having HR get my signed job description. Can you think of anything else I should do to have my CPA pieces in place?

Additionally, anyone else been laid off and have advice on things to do in these last few weeks?

Get your AICPA membership form experience sign off too.

Sorry to hear about the potential layoff, that sucks.

Thank you ScarletKnightCPA – I did not think of that… much appreciated.

I should qualify that, I believe you only need experience signoff if you are seeking membership between passing the CPA exam and prior to being licensed but you have enough experience.

Good to cover your bases though.

I was laid off in 2008 (our accounting, IT and HR departments were). We had advance notice so I was able to get my resume out and find a new job to transition seamlessly. That would be my main advice. Get your resume out now. Potential employers like to hire people that are currently employed. Those coworkers of mine that waited until after the layoff had a much harder time finding a job.

That's a great point – a resume gap is something I'm not looking forward to. I have my name out with a few recruiters, but I need to start looking on my own as well.
